Hello,

While waiting for the M10R to ship I am considering lenses that complement the QP 28 1.7 Summilux. My photos are landscape, portraits and family. I’m hoping to stay within the Leica lens family, but reading posts has me also thinking about Zeiss as a possibility. No budget for noctilux.

Thanks in advance for your input and advice!

For landscapes the 21 mm SEM or 24 mm Elmar lenses are very good.  They have good contrast, edge to edge sharpness and are small and lightweight.  For family photos I would consider a  50 mm  focal length which can be used in combo with your existing 28 mm lens.  For portraits either a 75 mm or 90 mm f2 lens.

Until a couple months ago I would have said the 50 APO, but now I would recommend the 50 lux.  Either will be spectacular.  The excellent high-ISO performance of the M10-R means either will do well, though the 50 lux of course will give you a more artistic rendering, an extra stop of speed or light when you need it, and happens to be less expensive as well.  They are roughly the same size.

Thanks for the advice! I ‘m leaning towards the 50 1.4 lux. I can continue to use the QP 28 1.7 for when I want a wider lens for landscape, architectural. Although my gut tells me that once I start shooting with the 10R that will change.

Don't think you need another 28mm - just go for 21mm if you need something wider than the Q.

I had both 50mm Summilux and 50mm APO Summicron.  Both are excellent lenses and they do render differently.  I preferred the APO so eventually sold the Summilux, but I know others would choose the opposite.  I don't have an M10-R but I'm sure you could crop the 50mm with this sensor and get excellent results.

I do find 90mm a bit challenging with a rangefinder so I would not go for this focal length, but your eyes might be better than mine 😳
