The slight difference, to my eye, is not a big deal and I just wondered if anyone else had a similar experience. I'm going to redo my test with the Summicron and the Elmar-M. Thanks to all who responded. I’ve often wondered if lenses from the same time period as borne out by serial numbers tend to have the same color characteristics and if true, how much of the sameness is due to the lens coatings employed at that time. Let us know how your retest turns out.
John Robinson Posted August 22, 2020 Share #23  Posted August 22, 2020 The Elmar-M 1:.2.8/50 (latest version) is an excellent lens. Often, given the choice of putting a Summilux-M 1:1.4/50 ASPH or the Elmar on an M9 or SL, I choose the Elmar and have not been disappointed. It is sharp wide-open, hardly vignettes and closing down is mostly useful to manage depth of field. Image below from the SL with M-Adapter L. lct Posted August 22, 2020 Share #25  Posted August 22, 2020 Works fine on closeups too. Look at the nice (to me) bokeh ball on the grass.
