Stein K S Posted August 17, 2020 Share #1 Posted August 17, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi This has probably been discussed a few times before. But anyhow, I ask for help to optimize photo quality for display in this forum. I have a limit of appr 500 kb. And I hexport JPG directly from RAW in LR, using size appr 1000 x 1000 pixels, quality of 80-100% and resolution 240 to 360 pixels to get below the 500 kb. However; i do see that most other participants` pictures do appear sharper than mine. Look at my post yesterday under Leica Lenses and 28mm pictures... my picture in b&w... and comparing with pictures posted especially just before mine. Is there other ways around this to achieve sharper exports? Probably through formatting the JPG in other ways than through the Export menue? Or is it about getting permission to post higher quality? I thank you for all feedback! Regards,

wda Posted August 17, 2020 Share #2 Posted August 17, 2020 Jaap has posted detailed advice as a 'sticky'. It is worth revisiting his post which applies to all fora.
Stein K S Posted August 17, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted August 17, 2020 Hi again David Thanks! But I actually need help to find that `sticky` thread (green nailed thread? ) from Jaap on this. Under this topic I can find only two sticky market threads... in which I can not find anything from Jaap on this issue. I really appreciate your patience 😀 Regards
stuny Posted August 17, 2020 Share #4 Posted August 17, 2020 If I recall there's a sticky from Jaap on this on each of the photo section forums.

marchyman Posted August 17, 2020 Share #6 Posted August 17, 2020 In Lightroom you can set a maximum size of the output file. Use that instead of trying to guess a quality value. It is in the File Settings. "Limit File Size to (whatever value you like) K". In your Image Settings pick the desired Resize value and also click the "Don't Enlarge" box. Soapbox time: The "Resolution" value is unimportant. It only sets a constant in the metadata intended to help judge the size of a PRINTED image. Setting it to 10 or setting it to 10 million will not change the bits that make up the image in any way.
philipus Posted August 17, 2020 Share #7 Posted August 17, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Stein Some of the photos in that thread are linked from Flickr and afaik that seems to circumvent the size limitation. That could explain that they contain more detail. br Philip 12 hours ago, Stein K S said: Look at my post yesterday under Leica Lenses and 28mm pictures... my picture in b&w... and comparing with pictures posted especially just before mine. andybarton Posted August 17, 2020 Share #8 Posted August 17, 2020 Since January, the file size limit has been increased to 1000kb for non-subscribing members.
Stein K S Posted August 18, 2020 Author Share #9 Posted August 18, 2020 (edited) Hi and thanks to all I am now set after puzzling with some wrong combos of all levers... I did try the ¨obvious¨ option of limiting filer size, but some other options anyway messed things up (like not clicking the Dont` enlarge button)... I feel somewhat stupid really 🤪 Again; thanks a lot to all! Edited August 18, 2020 by Stein K S
