Advertisement Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Hi johnastovall, Take a look here Leica offering D2 trade in on M8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
boilerdoc Posted August 16, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 16, 2007 Not likely. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is! They are selling all the M8s they can make so why make a crazy offer like that? Cheers........... Steve
TEBnewyork Posted August 16, 2007 Share #3 Posted August 16, 2007 Yes, my D2 had a sensor failure and was in for repair. There was a special offer sent for a Digilux 3 at a reduced price (this was different than the loyalty coupon). I was not interested in a Digilux 3 and asked if they would give any sort of similar discount if I were to upgrade to the M8. I was astonished when they said yes. So that is how I left my beloved D2 behind and joined the ranks of M8 owners. I am Sooooo happy.....except for all of the poorly focused shots I took last night at my mother's surrprise birthday.....anyone with an extra magnifier !!!!! johnastovall Posted August 16, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted August 16, 2007 Maybe I need to start looking for a broken D2 on eBay....
carstenw Posted August 16, 2007 Share #5 Posted August 16, 2007 It would depend on the size of the discount...
TEBnewyork Posted August 16, 2007 Share #6 Posted August 16, 2007 Well, it would have to be better than getting the D2 repaired and selling it on ebay....and it was. Saves Leica the repair cost and uses one less of the sensors that are not easy to come by. But more important makes the new M8 owner a buyer of lenses, handgrip, magnifier, flash, filters, extra batteries etc. etc. etc.

We need something to get John to jump, he's been tire kicking long enough and 2 posts in as many days about the M8 I think he's just about ready to take the plunge. :D
johnastovall Posted August 16, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted August 16, 2007 Hey, my old Navy Chief buddy has already told me to sell one of my AUG's and buy the M8 on Amazon. It's just a matter of weeks I suspect before the R-D1 becomes a backup to the M8.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted August 16, 2007 Share #9 Posted August 16, 2007 John need a little push here , something to really get you over the edge. Meet my friend FoxTrot Charlie. You know it makes sense (don't forget the filters!).
johnastovall Posted August 16, 2007 Author Share #11 Posted August 16, 2007 HI Johnno idea what an AUG is, but if it's some kind of a weapon, then chop it in and get yourself a nice shiny M8. You know it makes sense (don't forget the filters!). I won't forget the filters. That's what caused my long separation from an M8. But I've decided I can live with filters and Damn I miss shooting a Leica.... An AUG, Armee-Universal-Gewehr.

johnastovall Posted August 16, 2007 Author Share #13 Posted August 16, 2007 John once the filters are on you totally forget about it That's what I've decided watching your work Guy and Jaapv, Jono and so many other's here have just convinced me that my early reaction was an over reaction. Unfortunately, much of my old M8 lens fund went to Zeiss and fast L glass for the 5D. I hope it'll not minded my CV kit for a while.

Has any one ever heard of such a thing? I'm thinking maybe it's just more of the insanity at DPreview. This is intox. Yesterday, I got this answer from Solms. From: Frankl, Andrea [mailto:Andrea.Frankl@leica-camera.com] Sent: Wednesday, 12 September 2007 17:41 To: Manuel de Aguirre Subject: AW: D2 and M8 Dear Mr. de Aquirre, Thank you for your inquiery. Sorry that I get back to you so late. I don´t know anything about such a deal of exchanging a Digilux 2 into an M8 for a good price. There is no such deal (at least I have not heared of it before). Sorry, but we can not make such an offer. We can only exchange into the same model, or if we do not have it on stock, we will exchange into the next model which would have been the Digilux 3.
