M10-p is my perfect Leica camera. No reason to change or move on. Unless... there is 24MP version of M10 monochrome, I might consider about. I know this because my Sony A7R3 proved me that I do not need more megapixels, 24MP is very fine.

There is the option of the 24Mp M246 (Monochrom), but based on the M240 platform, not the M10.

Frankly I dislike the look of that screw head on the D/others and, would prefer that the factory 'stealth' model - if it's seen as necessary - be a black/silver Leica dot.

The red dot logo is owned by Leica Microsystems, and then licensed to Leica Camera.  After the black model M8.2 somehow managed to have a black dot (the silver M8.2 had the red dot), I gather that Leica Microsystems was not pleased and it appears doubtful that there will be a repeat. For those so inclined, however, there are sometimes third party replacements (black dot from DAG) or DIY solutions.

I do not like the body design of m240 compares to the m10, unfortunately. Thanks for help, Jeff. 🙂

Super happy with the M10-P, waiting for the M11.

I think the bad rap the M10 gets about highlight treatment is totally undeserved. It's the best 24 MPx FF camera at ISO 200-640 and can even match those Sony FF 24 MPx sensors for color saturation at ISO 3200 if ETTR. 😀 The M10-R is complementary as a landscape and architectural second body, it's not a substitute for the M10/-P, IMO.

I basically avoid ISO 100 on the M10-P in high contrast scenes and have learned to ETTR it for low noise files.

And now both files processed to taste. Look awesome to me.

Edit - I forgot to mention, NR at +30 in LR for the ISO 3200 file

And I want to see - not just hear/read testimonials - exactly how the higher ISOs (10000+) perform on the M10R compared to the M10, especially banding. For me, that is the weakest link of the M10 (occasionally), shooting a 135 TE f/4.0 in dark concert venues or nightime news events. And possibly color stability at higher ISOs with the M10R - some folks have noted a loss of saturation, or questions about "oranges," but I'm always open to that just being operator error.

[...]

This is not what the M10-R is meant for primarily and no one will show you these files. It’s a complementary second body for landscape and architectural photography, IMO. You’ll be in a wait-and-see mode possibly until the M11 arrives, I suspect. 😂

I have an M8.2 and an M10.  I would have preferred a black dot to a red dot, and I would have preferred no dot more than the other choices.  I'm not going to replace the red, as I don't want to make changes to the camera, but a small piece of black plastic electrical tape will eliminate the issue.

Does it matter if my half-inch wrench says "Craftsman" or "Snap-On"?  It's a tool, and despite all the stuff indicating otherwise, to me the camera is just a tool too.

Then why consider using black tape?  Do you do think about that for your wrenches?

BTW, the black dots (e.g., from DAG) are simple to put on and take off for resale. I don’t bother anymore either, but no big deal for those who prefer a different aesthetic.  And clearly there are many who do, as Leica sales for P models and special editions attest.

Choices to satisfy all (just not all from the factory).

Interesting question, upgrade to the new Leica, or stay with my M10.  The answer, is I'm not buying anything "new".   My M10 does everything I expected and hoped it would do, but nowadays I'm hardly using it at all, until the authorities get the virus under control.  I just don't see the point of my walking around searching for "candid photograph" opportunities, when I feel nervous about just being out there doing this at all.

I hate to say it, but my photography lately has mostly been with my Nikon Df, or one of my pocket cameras, or with my mobile.  For the types of photography that I enjoy the most, the Leica is perfect, and the M10 is a nice improvement over my M8.2, but 24 megapixels is already more than I really need.

If I had a wish list, my next Leica would have a viewfinder that worked like my Fuji X100 cameras, where I could either have an optical view with a working rangefinder, as Leica does now, or switch to a digital view (and have the option to briefly display the captured image in the viewfinder, should I wish to do so).  Maybe this will happen with my next camera, a M11 ?

Anyway, my answer, "staying put".

Why?  I don't walk around with my wrenches.  I do walk around with my cameras.  I see no reason why others should see what camera I'm using, and years ago, I taped over the word "Nikon" on the big prism housing on top.  To me, things like that are an invitation, saying STEAL ME, I'M EXPENSIVE.  That's part of the reason I have always preferred a black camera, since the 1970's.  Less "flashy".

I never bought into that view.  To me, it’s the photographer that prompts attention, not the gear.  Except when I used large format view cameras, I can count on one hand anyone mentioning my camera, unless intentional interaction on my part, and I’ve also been shooting since the 70’s.  There are ways to make yourself discreet. Different strokes...
