I used to own Nokton 50 1.2. Lens is very well build, exhibit impressive sharpness etc. Color rendering is nice but inferior to 28 Cron for example. BW rendering is very nice.

At the end I sold it and bought Summilux 50 ASPH. Between Summicron and Nokotn I recommend Lux 🙂

Kamyar,  The 50 Summicron Safari is the same optical formula as the regular black 50 Summicron.  If you are talking the 50 APO Summcron it is a different lens all together.  When using the M10-M Monochrom being B&W there is no issue with purple fringing.  I have found IMO and decades of experience, the best technical photographic results come with using the same manufacturer lenses with their camera bodies.  The Leica digital cameras with the micro lenses on the sensor paired with Leica M lenses perform the best together.  Third party lenses have always disappointed both myself and clients who are sticklers for detail and perfection.  Hence I don't use Voigtlander etc..  Other photographers have different opinions and experiences.  It will get down to your personal tastes, expectations and wallet.  Hope this helps.  r/ Mark

I am also looking for a 50 Summicron, I currently have: 24 Elmar, 35 cron, 75 cron. I've built my kit out in this order for project reasons. Back to the OP, its VERY difficult to find anything bad about the 50 (non APO) cron in reviews, whether formal or anecdotal,  in fact I've never come across anything negative......  I'm sure somewhere there is,  but I've never seen it , bottom line I've decided to wait until Leica soho reopens to buy there.

I have these lenses - I got the 50 Safari mainly to go with my M10P Safari. While it’s a great lens (same as any other recent 50/2) if you want a nice match for the 75 and a beautiful lens, I would suggest the 50/1.4

I also have the 50 Summicron (type IV/V) and the Nokton 50/1.2. If you need the extra speed, then this is an easy choice, and the Nokton is a great lens producing superb results. I have the 50/3.5 Elmar, and the bigger gap between the Elmar and Nokton does make it easier to choose between them when heading out and thinking about the expected light conditions (I prefer the Elmar over the others for it's superb haptics and great images, I'm sure that is controversial to some!).

Have the latest 50 Summicron in chrome and the 50f1.2 Nokton.  If you need the speed, then the choice is obvious.  Unlike some people on the forum, I tend to use which ever lens suits my needs not paying much attention to who makes it.  All things being equal, I suspect much of the "reported" differences photographers see is the result of too much time on their hands.  I doubt famous photographers like Bression, Eisenstadt, or Adams worried to much about the manufacturer.  My god, David Douglas Duncan even put Nikon lenses on his Leica for the Korean War.

When I travel and am trying to go light, I take the 50f1.2  just in case I need the speed.  And prices are so much more reasonable.
