stephengv Posted July 13, 2020 Share #1 Posted July 13, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is the 75mm Summarit 2.4, still worth it? despite being discontinued? I heard that it has a "Life Like" magnification ration, what does it really mean? Thank you in advance,
Advertisement Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 Hi stephengv, Take a look here 75 Summarit 2.4. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Likaleica Posted July 13, 2020 Share #2 Posted July 13, 2020 I love mine. Very sharp, great contrast and lightweight. Not as finicky as the apo-summicron. I've been through 3 of them and they keep going out of adjustment, my guess is it's the FLE. I did not know it had been discontinued. Too bad.
wda Posted July 13, 2020 Share #3 Posted July 13, 2020 I have its predecessor, same optically, and it's one of my favourite lenses. I haven't needed three of them 😁

Unfortunately the entire Summarit line was discontinued a few months ago. I have the 35/2.4 and 75/2.4 and think they're both excellent.
Steve Caddy Posted July 13, 2020 Share #5 Posted July 13, 2020 I have the 2.5 version, and though it’s taken a while for me to get used to the longer focal length, I’ve been frequently surprised by shots from the 75mm Summarit. I don’t think discontinuation is a reason to avoid the lens at all. If anything it’s a last chance to grab a really great and under-rated lens.
Keith (M) Posted July 13, 2020 Share #6 Posted July 13, 2020 I second the above positive remarks. Have had my 75mm f2.5 for nearly ten years and always find the results to be impressive. Recently added the 90mm f2.4 and that too is an excellent performer.
rsolomon Posted July 14, 2020 Share #7 Posted July 14, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have the 75 cron, this is an amazing and superb lens on a number of fronts in my opinion. I have never used the 75: summarit, Summilux, or noctilux. However I struggle to believe any are crisper than the cron.

Summarit is very crisp but Summicron rendering is more pleasing.

chris_tribble Posted July 27, 2020 Share #13 Posted July 27, 2020 Great lens. I’ve had 75 lux and cron and never really got on with them. I use the Summarit 2.4 a lot. A pity it doesn’t have an integral hood, but otherwise it stays in the line up. It’s great on the SL 2 too.
derleicaman Posted July 27, 2020 Share #14 Posted July 27, 2020 I have the 2.5 version, which I bought on close out from one of the big dealers in Europe after it was discontinued. I paid just under $900 for it. Well worth it, and it is an excellent lens. Never had a problem with it.

rramesh Posted September 10, 2020 Share #16 Posted September 10, 2020 The entire Summarit line is wonderful. When it was first introduced it shipped with a cloth case and not even a hood. And rather unfortunately Leica chose rubber rings on the 75. Leica did a great job of positioning it as a cheaper range. They should never have done that. When the 2.4 version came out, they made some improvements (hood, case etc.) but the stigma of a 'cheaper range' remained.
Herr Barnack Posted September 10, 2020 Share #17 Posted September 10, 2020 I have the 50/2.4 Summarit and love it. I was planning on getting the 75/2.4 but Leica discontinued it before I was able to snag one. 😟 Maybe one day I'll stumble across a good used copy. I should have probably grabbed a 50 before they disappeared.

Chances to find an unused one for a rebate are not bad. There were quite a lot of Summarits waiting in the shops for their customers - but nobody asked for them and I am sure they weren’t sold out of a sudden. That‘s the reason why they were ditched by Leica. Some lenses only get popular after they disappear from the catalogues. But try to find a Summarit mentioned in any thread in this forum older than 12 months, when someone asked which M-lens he should get. 2
