You are still here Dennis?

Yes I'm!

You know that you will pick a Distagon don't you.

Yes, it's on my top three list. Better IQ and performance, no sure about size (VF blockage it's a lot, but still workable). I can live with the weight. But it's a fearless lens, I can do magic things with it 🙂

And then you will open a thread about the Summilux FLE i bet :D

LOL, I know. Sure not bout this lens, for being very expensive. But I do know I post a lot and ask a lot. And sometimes I change my mind with some new things I didn't know. The problem is that I never tried/handled/used any lens apart from the two I own. And I'm sure that once I have a chance to try out in person some lenses, many questions will be answered.
No so much RF culture in Mexico. If yes, difficult to find, and high prices. I live on an island (almost). Just to check lenses, I have to travel to the USA, which has been n the last 15 years the country I buy from. But now it's not the time to go.
So, I will keep asking here 🙏 That's my only option, together with dreaming and make different plans 🙂
Good vibes

I was jus kidding but only you can know if you will use a 35 as big as a 90 on a RF.

Kidding is always fine! And allowed! Welcome Ict!

a 90 or a 135mm FL .. it's huge.

If there's some kind of test shot scenario you'd like me to post (one scene/subject, focus distance, and aperture) I wouldn't mind doing that if it's not too crazy.

If you are so kind to do it, I would love to ask if you can show me two things. How it looks like you VF blockage with your 35mm 1.2 III Asph, w/ and w/o hood
And if you already have any picture at 1.2 to share...
I know this lens is a great performer, and from 2.8 on, people say it's similar to the Biogon, very sharp. But at 1.2 I saw tremendous and bad results, and I can't decide.
I know it's not razor sharp wide open as the Distagon, but I don't like too much soft or glow.
Thank you in advance for your kindness.

How do I find a good lens-hood for the CV 35 1.2 III Asph? I just need something to protect a little the lens, but small VF blockage. A small hood would be awesome.

Any recommendations?

The haoge LH-VM 36 is available at amazon to fit that lens at a decent price.

I have the LH-ZM 35 for my distagon and its well made, bayonet fit, circular and hardly increases the size of the lens at all,,,there is also a square version.

This is great and very helpful.  Thank you so much for sharing.

I was interested on the behaviour of the Nokton 1.2, and it looks awesome at 1.2 and 1.4. Better than I thought or read somewhere else.

It looks like from 2.8 become very sharp. So, if from 2.8 on it's as sharp (or very similar) to my Biogon 2.8, but I can use when I need f/1.2 or f/1.4 or f/2, it got me.

  • 1 month later...

There was a significant update, and here goes a little resume.

Initially, the idea was to travel in the first two weeks of November to SF and dedicate an entire day to photography. A few days ago, the plan was to get a brand new CV 35 1.2 III plus a good 21/24 used lens, or even a brand new Nokton Voigtlander, and some general accessories. I waited until this week to know if it was possible to travel, but it is very difficult due to the current world situation. I could incur on some troubles due to possible the last minute restrictions. And the elections... So many cons to a nice trip. So I decided to postpone the trip to the next spring, hoping things would be much better. Ordering online was not an option. Mexico native prices are prohibitive. And If I buy in BH $4k gear to ship to Mexico, I could pay up to $1,200 ... Which was around the budget I put for airfare, accommodations, and general travel expenses. Three days' travel is a massive addition to the lens purchase, and I like it this way better, rather than throw money in taxes. It's not GAS. It has to be a pleasure. But something happened today! I tried once to browse in Amazon Mexico for lenses (Leica, Zeiss, Voigtlander), but the prices were ridiculous. I knew it, but I tried. Today, just for fun, I checked for the first time the TTartisan lenses, and I found out that the TT 35/1.4 was selling for the exact same price listed in BH ($450) in Mexico. With the exchange in pesos today, the difference was only $15 ... Plus $18 for shipping.

I did it! I bought it.

The only cons: delivery set for 20 Nov - 15 Dec ... But it's ok, I can resist 🙂 I considered this lens in my list in post #1 as the last option. As the thread title says, it has to be a fast partner for my Zeiss Biogon. After reading recently on line about it, I thought the TT was a perfect commitment for the price. And finally, I can take off many doubts about the Leica M system; it will be the third lens for my RF world I had ever in my hands. 😱 For the first time as an experienced user, I'll try a focus tab. Can't wait to try zone focus with it. I usually use a guesstimate using  distance; now, it can also work with tab position: two different feelings and approaches to focus. Love it.
Second, I'll understand what it feels like to carry and use a big lens (bigger than 50 Cron V). I hope it comes with no focus shift from the factory; I would not prefer to calibrate it by myself with a screw. I know it's easy, but I'm a bit of clumsy. Maybe my wife can help me, lol. I have a Zeiss and Leica, and soon a TT. Perhaps the next will be a Voigtlander 🙂

Who does own the TT 35/1.4? What do you love about it? I'll let you know when it arrives. And then I'll post some photos of course.

Btw 7artisans 28mm 1.4 has nice rendering since you like ttartisan. Otherwise if i was in your position would of sold the zeiss and get the summicron f2 and took the compromise. Then just add a close focus adapter to get those creamy shots haha.

M240/TTArtisan 35mm f/1.4 @ f/4 . . . best shot I could find quickly posted below . . .

Had it, sold it after I got a ZM 2/35, and now I wish I'd kept it.

Shopkeeper had me try four copies in case of sample variation, but all looked exactly the same wide open.  Color is simlar to Leica, very good wide open.  Congratulations on your choice and I think you will be happy with it.

Thanks for that!  My CV 35mm f1.2 VM Nokton III arrives tomorrow and having read your post the hood is now on order from Amazon UK.  Quite a saving!  :)

I've considered trading in my Nokton f1.2 v1 for a secondhand Zeiss f1.4 if one turns up. In Australia, the Zeiss is about AUD$3700, which is kind of nuts. It sometimes comes up for around AUD$2000 secondhand, so if I traded in my Nokton, I'd pay much less for it. But I'm not fond of selling lenses if I can help it, especially lenses that I like.

You can purchase several of the Zeiss ZM lenses, including the Distagon T * 1.4/35 ZM, directly from Amazon Japan, who will ship very quickly and inexpensively to most parts of the world, along with a 10% Consumption Tax (VAT) discount. So, you could have this lens, in either black or silver (my preference for Zeiss lenses) brand new for about AUD $2,250 at today's exchange rate, plus shipping. https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/Zeiss-Single-Focus-Distagon-corresponding/dp/B00U208T0Q/
