I wonder how did the preference distribution end up on the silver vs black finish for the original M9 and M9M.  E.g. I see a used 9+ silver M9-P offered at B&H for $3,900, signifying its premium value.  The silver M9M came about two years after the original black and were supposedly much more uncommon.  It's hard to come upon them used, lest pristine...

"the original black"?. Both finishes were available from day one... for both models. As far as I can remember here the preference seemed to be about 50/50.

There are probably less M9M than M9 though as owners weren't that impressed with the added features for the added cost.
