bebert Posted August 14, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 14, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just coming back from a 3 week trip in Madagascar in the dust and on the roads with my M8 around the neck. Just to tell you that I shooted more than than 2,000 pics without any problem and to confirm that this camera is really a dream (I was a M6 user before). Of course framelines are not accurate, of course I needed to add the 1.25x magnifier when using my 50mm Lux and 90mm Elmarit, but what a wonderful tool to capture the decise moment! I wanted to congratulate all the Leica engineers and technical teams to allow us to go in the digital word with the same basic pleasure (i.e. simply taking wonderful photos). It's some additional work to clean the pics (but you know compared to the work to be done when scanning negatives...!). I will ask my Leica reseller to clean the sensor for me (I prefer to have it done by an official specialist rather to destroy my sensor). By the way thank you for all your kind comments. I couldn't help but notice that you seem to like the 50mm equivalent focal length - the majority of photos were taken with M6+ 50 lux or M8 + 35 cron. afineman Posted August 16, 2007 Share #12 Posted August 16, 2007 There is a safe easy way to somewhat clean the sensor on the road or at home. Use a manual air blower and don't get the nosle near the sensor. If you hold the camera upside down when you blow the air in the dust should fall out. Many failures and issues have been reported on this forum with for a lot of them, a quick answer from Leica and sometimes improvements. I am positively impressed by the reactivity of the Leica team if you take in consideration the size of the company and the fact that they built from scratch a new view finder in the body of a 50-year camera! My unique intention was to post a positive message. I am simply happy to own a tool which is like the M6 I used before for street photography, but shoots frames of an outstanding quality which I am able to treat and print on a A2 printer within an hour. That's all. With respect to the definition of the "decisive moment" I would be happy to share your point of view and your pictures to discuss this great concept. The collection is riddled with what I would call "decisive moments" and if TR can't see that I guess it's his problem. Now, about the sensor cleaning: I would very strongly suggest that you become comfortable with doing this yourself as it will likely need to be done on a fairly regular basis--particularly if you change lenses often. Quite a few weeks ago I posted a story (linked below) about an experience I had and if you read it you might feel more at ease about the whole process. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/25050-sensor-cleaning-horror-story.html With something like the Sensor Brush from Visibledust.com you can clean the sensor in about 5 minutes, which is a lot easier than a trip to the shop every couple of weeks. The composition is such that one could believe that it was one child standing by a giant mirror. Just superb. Thanks for sharing.
