petereprice Posted May 26, 2020 Share #1 Posted May 26, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Has anyone compared the Leica Q, Q-P or Q2 to a Voigtlander 28mm f2 Ultron on an M series body like the M10 or M10-P? I'm curious to know how big of difference in bokeh, image quality, sharpness, background separation there is between these two setups. I just picked up an M10 with a Voigtlander 50mm f1.2 and I'm trying to figure out my strategy to having a wide option, and the more I read about the Q series, the more I'm intrigued, but I could also just get an affordable 28mm option for the M as well. Curious what you think....
Advertisement Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 Hi petereprice, Take a look here Leica Q, Q-P, or Q2 compared to the Voigtlander 28mm f2 Ultron?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted May 26, 2020 Share #2 Posted May 26, 2020 Just get the Ultron, use it and see how much you like it. It may save you thousands of Counting Beans. Greener grass is not always to one's taste.
johntobias Posted May 26, 2020 Share #3 Posted May 26, 2020 The grass is greener on the other side because they use more manure ! Seriously, an ultron is a cheap and good lens but it sure ain’t a Leica lens.
jaapv Posted May 26, 2020 Share #4 Posted May 26, 2020 Whether it is good or not depends on the use - I use mostly Leica lenses, but from time to time other brands simply work better. In this case, buy it, use it, judge it and keep it or sell it. You'll know whether it works - FOR YOU - and proceed accordingly.
Maxx71 Posted May 27, 2020 Share #5 Posted May 27, 2020 You can already shoot very shallow DOF shots with the Voigt 50 1.2. I suggest getting the Zeiss 28mm f2.8. it's light, sharp and does not block the view finder much. if you have a black M10, get the silver Zeiss! Olivier76 Posted October 25, 2020 Share #6 Posted October 25, 2020 (edited) Got a Q2 and the Ultron on my M8.2 and for six time cheaper than the summicron it’s a great bargain. Yes the Q2 summilux is crispier and do have that Leica feel, but the Ultron deliver excellent performance. I recommend it. Still have to try it on M Typ 262... Welcome, dear visitor! Einst_Stein Posted November 25, 2021 Share #7 Posted November 25, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) VM 28mm ii and ZM 35mm are my favorite two non-Leica lenses on my M. I like them very much. But in the daily usage, I found my M240 mount is such a precious resource that 50mm summicron would not leave the seat to them. Recently I bite the bullet to get Q2. Now Q2 and M240+Summicron 50 live together happily ever after. Edited November 25, 2021 by Einst_Stein
goorackerelite Posted December 27, 2021 Share #8 Posted December 27, 2021 there's no comparison, the Q's lens is in another universe when it comes to rendering, sharpness and micro contrast. The Voigtlander 28mm v1 has some of that character but lacks sharpness and the V2 is hella sharp but lacks the character.
