Hi,

I bring up this topic again because I am interested in getting a 50mm manual lens for my Leica CL, not sure if it will be the Voigtlander APO-Lanthar f/2 or the Nokton f1.2 yet (even though I am very intrigued by the Lanthar, as I've heard wonderful things about it).

It is the very first manual lens I get for the CL (I own the camera since a couple of months and I am using it just with the Leica 23mm f2), so I don't own an M to L adapter and I must get it: I've read in this topic that a third part adapter will not transmit lens info to the camera body, but as I understood neither the VM APO Lanthar nor the Nokton have the 6-bit coding to transmit the info anyway... is it correct? In this case I could get the Novoflex adapter.

(P.S. If you also have any suggestion about these two lenses, you're welcome of course!)

I would say a 50mm lens doesn't need coding unless you want it for EXIF data. A VM lens with coding would come into EXIF as its Leica conterpart. I do have one lens that screams for coding, a 19mm Zeiss Distagon, but its mount has a screw where the coding should be, which screws things up (sorry).

I do use M lenses on my CL, all are pre coding. I originally bought the Leica adapter but I picked up a Fotasy adapter, which has worked well. I often carry more than one M mount lens with me, say a 35 Summilux pre asph, or Zeiss f2.8 and a 90 Elmarit, both having adapters saves time.

Today I have my CL with a full set of Voigtlanders, all manually coded with an appropriate 6 bit setting; 15mm f4.5 III, 21mm f1.4 as my “main” lens, 35mm f1.2 III and 75mm f1.5.

I should receive a box today from Stephen Gandy at Cameraquest with the 10mm f5.6 Hyper-wide, providing me with a 15mm equivalent prime for the CL.

Correct. It is a decent solution, but the thumb wheel is a lot better ergonomically. A flick of the wheel is more simple than searching for a button with your thumb with the camera at your eye.

Hi all,

I have just been loaned a 21mm M lens and I have an adapter to use on the CL.

The friend has no experience of doing so, so i’d like a few does and don’ts if anyone can oblige?

You can paint over the screw...
