Lady in the Food Hall - SL2S with 28 M Summilux - Up until now when shooting street photography I often switch between 35 Lux and the 21 Super Elmar. The 21 allows for better hit rate and I just love its unique qualities including sharpness Both lenses work very well on the SL cameras.. I decided to buy the 28 Lux considering the 24 mm is quite close to the 21 SEM angle of view.

Another good one! I follow your posts for long time and I really like your way of expression. The lasts posts with your new 28 summilux are yet another story, revealing the power of this lens. I've had one from the very beggining of this lens, and I used it a lot for many years with M 240, almost constantly. Nowdays it mainly stay in the bag, but you motivate me to use it more frequently. And yes, I agree with one of your posts about visual aspect, this lens reproduce - very sharp in the focus, with pleasant smooth bokeh out of it.

Good to hear from you MaticB, thank you for enjoying the way I see the world. It's also good to hear from a long time user of the 28 Summilux, as I am just a newbie to this lens. I will probably try to use my other lenses going forward but the 28 has overshadowed my other favourite, the 21 SEM.  I do love a good lens MaticB whether M or SL Its a good thing I probably can't afford all the APO Summicron lenses because these modern lenses are perfect, awe-inspiring and wonderfull tools. Still, I think having a mix of older style and modern lenses suits my eclectic expression and treatment of subject material.

Best

This are my thoughts also! I have 35APO, 28 Summilux, 50 Summilux CF (new version - used mainly with M11Mono) and 75/2.4 Summarit. All in all, this is nice combo, with everything someone expect from Leica M lenses. One wish for the future is 21 mm, probably 21 SEM.

Wish you all the best - Matic (been in Australia 4 times, probably will visit again...)

At time of this picture, I think it's the only lens I had for the day on the M246 with the only 28mm Summicron-M

quite a challenge trying not to frame too large (I see things in 35mm mainly)

Two more from the 28 Summicron-M v1. M10

I can't get over the tonal range of this lens - it's like having a Mandler/Canada v.3, only faster and smaller. 😁

Adan, it's one of my favorites for B&W but I reach for the Emarit ASPA out of habit.  I will put it in my bag so I won't forget it the next time.

After a few months with this 28 Summilux lens I have come to the conclusion that I am very happy with its abilities. I am shooting Street from the hip at f1.4 which is pretty crazy considering the depth of field. I do have a few disappointments (fails) however when I get the distance exactly right, the results are amazing. In previous years I have been using the 21 SEM, 35 Summicron Asp and the 35 Summilux. Moving to the 28 has been a relief from my long held 35 mm perspective. I was already using the 21 in preference to the 35 Summilux because of its smaller barrel size suiting the angle of the camera sitting at my side. My hit rate was also increasing with the 21 lens.

The move to 28 was a no brainer considering the cropping factor is less compared to the 21 SEM. I wouldn't recommend starting this method of shooting with a 1.4 lenses however. There is great benefit of having some success with ones images and be able to endure the continual practicing process to perfect the method. The best lens I have found for shooting from the hip is the 35 Summicron. Once again for its barrel size and the angle it can sit comfortably on my shoulder bag, at my side. I am having to readjust the length of my shoulder bag with different camera straps so the camera looks most comfortable while achieving the best angle to subjects up to 2.5 metres away. This image was shot with the M Monochrom camera however the M10M is (and probably the M11M) are better tools for the job. Once establishing a rhythm on the street with changing exposures and approaching the subject, the only other problem is rolling shutter.
