Hi, I wear glasses and I have noticed some scuffing marks on my eyepiece evf. Has anyone else experienced this?

No i don't have them on mine.

I guess or it looks to me as the EVF was rubbing against something, probably in the bag you use.

However, i never thought about this problem but have the original leica matte screen protector film on my Q2,
but i may should try to apply one also on the EVF.
main problem would be to find a film with good "optical" qualities while the glasses for cellphone screens should do the trick
but i fear there are no specific ones for the Q/Q2 EVF on the market.

There are several inexpensive cellphone screen protector films on te market, with a x-acto knife they can be cut to fit,
the glass ones can't be cut.

Hi, Thank you, I didn’t think about it rubbing against something else. I use a leather half case when I am out and about and I have a screen protector on the large display. I will look to cut a screen protector to size for the eye piece and try and work out where it is rubbing when I am walking about.

Is there a way to remove the scuff marks? They look worse in the sunshine in this photo. Or is it best just to leave them alone now? I emailed Leica support but I don’t think they are there at the moment.

Thanks again

Christine

I tend to agree that it was something in a bag rubbing against the EVF.
I wear glasses and I can see no scratches on my EVF after a year of use.
I looked and didn’t find an EVF specific screen protector.
I would guess that once Leica service is back working, they can replace your viewfinder glass.
Check your bag carefully and make certain nothing is loose where you keep the camera.

Thank you,

I can only think it is rubbing against my clothes somewhere when I carry it around my neck to one side under my arm. I don’t now why it has rubbed in only one place.
I store it in a full leather case, so I don’t think that is the problem.

I have cut one of  my Q2 screen protectors to size as best I can and it seems to be working fine. The sensor still detects my eye when I am in that mode. I had felt sure it was my glasses. Now I know it’s not I can keep watching out for what might have cause it.

In the meantime it is now protected.

Thanks you again for your feedback.

When the camera is hanging from you neck, I bet it is constantly bouncing on a sharp button or zipper on the same spot when walking.  This is how it looks to me.

Thanks Ralph

I guess it’s the only explanation. I have never carried a camera as much as the Q2, I love it. I protected the large screen, use as half leather case, bought a b&w lens filter, I store it in a full body leather case and then this happens, one down to experience. With the protective screen now on the eye piece I cannot even see the rub marks and it does not effect my usage at all but its a shame. On a separate note, I have also now taped the top edges of the body to stop the strap rings rubbing the body.

Thanks again for all your the replies.

Christine,

One of the reasons I chose an Arte de mano half case is their really elegant way of preventing the strap rings ever touching the camera top edge.

That’s beautiful.

I bought one by Puuboo via Amazon.

Another great design element for me to look out for.

Thank you again.

I’ve now found two leather washer ring protectors. I’m not sure if the came with the original strap or the Leica rope strap I bought. Hopefully they will help too.

The screen protector for my Q included a film for the EVF, but I have not seen that available for the Q2.  Now I see why it would be good to have.

Very interesting, thank you.

Leica technical support came back to me and said the solution I found was what they would have recommended to me. Ie: cutting one to size.

i have that phenomenon on my q2 evf too, and i assume it stems from my metal frame glasses; i regret it, but it does not overly worry me, since the outermost layer of the evf could (hopefully) be replaced at relatively reasonable cost, and it does not really  affect my taking pictures.

has anyone figured out if Leica will replace the outermost layer of the EVF?  The one on my Q2 monochrom is pretty badly scuffed and appears maybe to even have a small crack in it....i am thinking its cosmetic and doesnt really impact my shooting but im curious.  would this be covered under warranty?

I cannot speak for Leica, but I’d expect that since this is physical damage caused by direct contact on the EVF optics, it would not be covered under warranty. You could contact Leica and ask, and get an estimate for what the repair would cost.

Yeah I am going to stop by the DC store after work today...was just wondering if anyone had direct experience.  I will let everyone know what I find out.

For those of you wondering - my guy at the local Leica store said that New Jersey got back to him and its right around $250 to have the entire EVF replaced.  Thats actually not too bad in my opinion....I fully expected there to be a comma in the number.  Not sure I will do it or not....but its good to know its an affordable fix.
