ramarren Posted June 2, 2020 Share #21 Posted June 2, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've dealt with Don Goldberg many times over the past thirty years. He's good and does excellent work, and if you're in a rush, call or email him ahead of time and ask specifically how long your job will take. Most of the things I've sent to him have been simple CLAs and he's always gotten them back to me within two to four weeks. One of my M bodies had been recently serviced by Sherry Krauter; this was a 1980 M4-P that I owned about 22 years ago. It was even better operating than the same age, almost new one that I also had at the time which had been sitting in the box since new, and this one had been used a lot by a photojournalist. Sherry did superb work on it. That said, I haven't had occasion to engage her services since and don't know if she is still working or (at least) semi-retired now. The 60 macro will not focus to infinity. The furthest out it will focus is about 3 feet. The focusing ring reads infinity, but it isn't. I imagine this would be a costly repair. Any suggestions on where I could go for this fix? Thanks. I've broken only three lenses -- the aperture ring on an 35mm Summicron Asph, and then the focusing on, coincidently, two separate 60mm Elmarit. Both were fixable, and one instance, the repair tech had to manufacture the replacement part. I'm not sure exactly what was wrong, but in one of them sounds like the issue you have. They were both repaired in the USA. Vermont Camera Works fixed one and Sherry Krauter in upstate NY fixed the other. Good luck. Great, iconic lens, but I did lose some faith in them. I no longer own them as I continually cut down on SLR stuff.

The R 60 macro is, IMO, one of the most underpriced Leica lenses. Good ones sell for under $500 on ebay, so you might want to consider whether it's worth getting fixed. But if you do want to fix it, you're in luck! Youxin Ye is in Massachusetts, though the eastern part. Mr. Ye did the CLA on my M4-P and adjusted the infinity on one of my M lenses. He does all the work for Miami Leica and that's a pretty strong endorsement. Youxin Ye 16 Fairview Road Canton, MA 02021 U. S.
