cardinal Posted August 13, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 13, 2007 Really nice photos here, Allan are you using a motordrive? You have them framed so perfectly.
Rona!d Posted August 13, 2007 Share #3 Posted August 13, 2007 Allan, i like them very much. Is that all in the pit lane? Otherwise a 35mm lens would be suicide. Ron

stuny Posted August 13, 2007 Share #5 Posted August 13, 2007 Allan - Nothing pitiful here. Your usual excellence and recognizable styel.
abrewer Posted August 13, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted August 13, 2007 Hey, thank you everybody! I was feeling a little blue, but you guys have made my day (again). Thank you Paul! Thank you Stuart! Hi Bill. My "motordrive" is my right thumb on the MP advance lever. Thanks for looking. I've still got to get out with my 50 and shoot some trains! Thank you too, Ron. I stand on the inside of the pitlane wall when I shoot these. I try to get between two teams' pit areas, as there is usually an unclaimed gap of space (maybe a foot or two) between them. There's a fundamental difference between IndyCar pitlane and F1 in that there is always a concrete wall between the pitlane with its cars and the actual pit area in IndyCar. You can see that wall in my pics (see the Danica set, it's on the left and I'm leaning over it slightly, so the perspective looks like I'm actually in the pitlane) and I am always on the inside away from the cars. It's about waist-high and I've got some protection (well, at least from my mid-section down) from anything untoward. At F1 events there's nothing separating the pitlane and cars from the garages, so you've really got no protection out there. It's just garage, pitbox and pitlane...bang, bang, bang. I give them plenty of respect and keep my eyes and ears open all the time out there. On a practice day (as you can see there were no people in the stands) there is a better chance of getting "close" like this than on a raceday when everyone (drivers, owners, teams, security, other photogs) are uptight and scrutineering gets intense. You're right. I have to be close to get a picture. On the other hand, because everyone else is shooting at minimum a 70-200 zoom, nobody else's pictures look like mine when I do! Thanks. wda Posted August 13, 2007 Share #7 Posted August 13, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Your standard lens works well in this situation, better than I would have thought. Although I am not familiar with the topography at these events. David
