Photoworks Posted May 11, 2020 Share #1 Posted May 11, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) It looks like the Leica SL2 has a great sensor and may perform even better then the Sony A7R4 with adapted Tilt-shift Canon lenses. I was doing a quick test for myself to see what the difference in color, noise and dynamic rage is. It looks like the it performs just as good ad the sony. A surprising benefit come with the SL2 and the sensor designed for M lenses, if you look at corner performance the Leica retained detail better than the sony. This pictures are just messy, but they where both processed in C1Pro 20. extra highlights correction for the window in luma range.. This is the SL2 Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Hi Photoworks, Take a look here Leica SL2 vs A7R4 with adapted lenses. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ajmarton1 Posted May 11, 2020 Share #2 Posted May 11, 2020 Well, to be fair there's a huge price difference between the two. But I will say this - I have used the SL2 and the a7rIV and the auto focus tracking / eye detection on the Sony which is important to me for wildlife is incredible. So it really depends on what is important to you. Andrew

I was surprise how well the sensor can mach in color and details. Of course the SL2 is more money, It is a camera made by German worker mostly by hand with the final materials. I enjoy shooting with both system, Aldo I like how the SL2 get out of the way more and you concentrate more on your subject. If you are doing wildlife you probably don't adapt any lenses if you need performing AF.

jankap Posted May 11, 2020 Share #5 Posted May 11, 2020 You can wait 2+ years for the next generation. These cameras will be better still. Or look 2+ years back, these were very good already.
Jon Warwick Posted May 11, 2020 Share #6 Posted May 11, 2020 Thanks for posting. It’s of great interest to me, given I’m a large format user, but now also owning an SL2 .... and I am looking at a Canon TS-E (latest 50mm) to use front rise to avoid keystoning. When full front rise is used, how do the edges and corners look using the SL2 and your TS-E combo?

It would be interesting to process the same file with different software to see if it's a CaptureOne issue or a file issue.

They both had sharpening, it is a 12sec exposure that produces some noice in both cameras, the image that come out of the SL2 is sharper to begin with . I suppose you can fine-tune it some more. but looking at the high-res image the noise is not a problem. I used capture one because it has much better highlights recovery then Adobe. If this would have been a real shot I would probably take more exposers and blend them in.

I started using the Roceti frame to make shifting and stiching images more efficient , you can find it on amazon if you are interested. Welcome, dear visitor!
