I prefer my SL to the SL2 BUT I have to use my Canon EF glass with a cheap adapter, wide open and manual focus.  No problem but my Sigma MC-21 will not work at all on the SL.  Didn't like the Panasonic S1 which I am selling (keeping the 24-105 lens though!)...

Has anyone tried the FotodioX Pro Fusion Smart AF Adapter for EF to L mount?

I'd like to know as well. I will note that the Fotodiox website seems to indicate that it's compatible with the SL (Type 601) but it's not quite clear. Here's the details under the compatibility tab:

" Leica L-Mount Cameras - Popular models include:

  • Leica T (Typ 701), Leica SL (Typ 601), Leica TL, Leica TL2
  • Leica CL Mirrorless Digital Camera
  • Panasonic Lumix DC-S1, DC-S1R, DC-S1H  "

Thanks for the link. Interesting.  I'm using the Sigma MC-21 on my SL2 & very pleased.  I still have my SL601 & I wonder if it will also work with the CL?

Fotodiox has shipped my order for delivery Friday -- initial report this coming weekend...

The final answer to the compatibility of the Fotodiox Fusion EF to L adapter on Leica SL:

NO!

Fotodiox engineers found that the SL firmware will not support anything other than the Novoflex (which itself woefully out of support or updates).  There is also a possibility that the SL circuitry did not protect itself and an internal component (fuse?) failed.  Bear in mind that my SL was an early production copy -- but still: DO NOT USE IT ON SL!

I have nothing but praise for Fotodiox and their amazing technical/customer support.  The refunded my purchase and helped me find a great SL replacement.  Went for a walk today with the SL and am back in love with it.

I'm selling my Pany S1 (I'm a manual kinda photographer and it baffles me) and will use my Canon glass on a Canon.  If (when) I get the SL2, I will immediately buy a new Fotodiox Fusion adapter!

Thanks for the feedback. The Sigma MC-21 adapter is part of the L Mount alliance, why wouldn't you go with that?

My experience with the MC-21 & Canon EF lenses on the SL2 is seamless.

Michali, good point - MC-21 is proven and I have one!  But with the S1 being sold, I will not have a body for it.  If (WHEN!) I get the SL2, I will get the Fotodiox and compare them.

Also, I have multiple M adapters - WHY?  I'd rather change at the body than fiddle with adapters and their tiny lens lock release buttons.  I also have a dumb Canon EF adapter upon which my 85mm portrait lens resides.  Shot wide open manual focus, I can interchange it with my Tele-Emarit 90 very quickly as my mood waivers.

Thank you for making a good point -- I'm just a weird old manual kinda guy...

A question for SonomaBear: :)

In a post above, you state:

Although it is not explicitly stated in the above quote, the clear inference I draw from this is that mounting this adapter on an SL caused a failure / destruction of the SL. It is not entirely clear (though this topic may have been covered in a different thread).

Is this the case - that the Fotodiox Fusion EF to L adapter "fried" your SL?  The reason I ask is that I have been debating this with my camera store who say the Fotodiox works on Leica. (though I note that the Fotodiox adapter sale site excludes Leica L mount from their list of supported bodies and types supported.) But I wish to hear first-hand if this adapter has caused camera failure before I state it to them categorically as "evidence".

Background: I have been looking for a suitable EF to L adapter for a Leica SL (original version) and was considering this  adapter but it seems it is off the table. In my case I only need it for exposure control (I was planning to use an adapter with Zeiss ZE glass which have no aperture control on the lens) but it seems increasingly unlikely that I will be able to locate one that is reliable and does not run the risk of frying the camera and or lens.
