Advertisement Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Hi Albert4321, Take a look here Leica 1.25x Magnifier for M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Eoin Posted August 10, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 10, 2007 yes no problem, 28mm is about the limit requiring a good look around for framing.
tbarker13 Posted August 10, 2007 Share #3 Posted August 10, 2007 I haven't taken mine off since putting it on the camera. But 28 is the widest I use - other than my CV15, for which I use an external finder. I absolutely love the magnifer, particularly when I'm using longer focal lengths. Shootist Posted August 10, 2007 Share #4 Posted August 10, 2007 Yes if you don't wear glasses. I have even used it with a 28 Elmarit ASPH, but you have to move your eye slightly from side to side and up and down to see all the frame lines. Works for me. I had mine attached to the camera all the time for about 2 or 3 weeks and used it for all lenses, I guess I'm getting to know how the differnet lenses frame. But I have taken it off because it would get caught on my clothing/belt and I was afraid I'd RIP it off the camera when grabbing the camera quickly for a shot. I do have it in it's leather potch snapped on the strap just in case I feel the need to use it.
c6gowin Posted August 10, 2007 Share #5 Posted August 10, 2007 I leave it on all of the time. It is useable with the 28mm frame lines if you don't wear glasses. I don't have a 24mm (yet) so it is more convenient for me to leave it on at all times. Also, you will want to be sure and use the lanyard that comes with the magnifier. I didn't care for it and decided to take it off - bad idea - I lost the magnifier and had to buy a new one. That was an expensive mistake I won't make again. cwf Posted August 10, 2007 Share #6 Posted August 10, 2007 Mine, combined with with a -1 eyepiece, has not come off since I put them on. (No lens wider than 28mm, yet.) I find this particularly helpful with focusing. The VF image appears brighter. The only problem I have is figuring out what to do with my glasses. The functionality is better than I anticipated. junglehs Posted August 10, 2007 Share #7 Posted August 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) what happens if you wear glasses? will it be harder to see the lines for 28mm?
Shootist Posted August 10, 2007 Share #8 Posted August 10, 2007 what happens if you wear glasses? will it be harder to see the lines for 28mm? Yes because the glasses move your eye farther back aways from the viewfinder.
rwfreund Posted August 11, 2007 Share #9 Posted August 11, 2007 My only problem with the magnifier is a loss of contrast. Otherwise, it helps a bit, especially with the 75 and longer. -bob

gravastar Posted August 11, 2007 Share #11 Posted August 11, 2007 Is it possible to screw a diopter corrector onto the magnifier? Yes Although you might like to look at these two which have adjustable correction Megaperls Webshop - Films and more directly from Japan and Megaperls Webshop - Films and more directly from Japan Bob. lars_bergquist Posted August 11, 2007 Share #12 Posted August 11, 2007 Newcomers to the M often feel an urge to screw various things to the body (the camera's!) but they often come off later. An M is as lean and elegant as a classic English sports car; a camper back would be out of place. I have no problem with either focusing or compositions with the longer focal lengths. j. borger Posted August 11, 2007 Share #13 Posted August 11, 2007 I had one attached permanently till i lost it after a couple of weeks. Since then i do as well without the magnifier and do not miss it...... yes the magnifier is convenient but not strictly needed for accurate focussing! wlaidlaw Posted August 11, 2007 Share #14 Posted August 11, 2007 With glasses and magnifier, even the 35mm lines are a bit of a struggle. I find the magnifier essential with the Noctilux, as you have to be sure that you are focused on exactly the correct plane, with DOF the thickness of a cigarette paper (I was going to use the English slang for a cigarette but that might be misunderstood by those on the other side of the Atlantic). I do not often use the Elmarit 90/2.8 wide open, where you don't HAVE to use it but it still helps. Wide open, again I think, it is close to essential. lightpainter Posted August 11, 2007 Share #15 Posted August 11, 2007 yes no problem, 28mm is about the limit requiring a good look around for framing. I even use the magnifier with the 24 asph because I'm too lazy to take it off....; you can get used to judge the corners with a slight movement of your eye
papih Posted August 12, 2007 Share #16 Posted August 12, 2007 Hi, I bought this one, and never taken off from my m8 since. Cheaper and include diopter corrections. Really help me with the 50 lux and 90 elmarit. カメラã®ç·åˆé€šè²©ã‚·ãƒ§ãƒƒãƒ—-MAPCAMERA.COM-ショッピング they also have the 0.85 and 1.15 flavors. Sadly, i think it only available through their store and dont know if they can ship it abroad. Really a nice store with lots of items that I never saw in person before (dont buy their cv lens as its cheaper in the states, but their zeiss lens is significantly cheaper than BHphoto or any online retailer). I saw a new plastic-sealed-boxed L mount 60mm/1.2 hexanon that was out of my budget, and also dreadfully missed on a nice 21/2.8 avenon that seemed destined to be mounted on my m8!! I hesitated to buy, and need time to think about it. Next morning it was long gone. Lesson learned: Next time, practice and remember to say "reserve this" in japanese. I will post to let people know if they do. Wilson If it's Megaperls you're referring to then yes, they do ship to the UK. Very fast and friendly no communications difficulties at all. I've purchased several difficult to get (in the UK) items in the past and had excellent service. Bob.
geoff Posted August 12, 2007 Share #20 Posted August 12, 2007 I have also seen viewfinder magnifiers in 0.85x and 1.25x sizes from Hong Kong Suppies on eBay. They ship to the Americas, Europe, Australia and Asia. I'm not sure if these are one-in-the-same as those from Megaperls or MapCamera. A concern, I read, for eyeglass wearers, was whether one could scratch their glasses on the surface of one of these. Geoff
