Louis Posted April 3, 2020 Share #5 Posted April 3, 2020 Ahhh, Ali, you are breaking my heart. I grew up in Geneva and God knows how many thousands of time I passed by the border of Leman of your first shot. But I have never seen any piece of earth forming the little island of your second shot! when I was in my teens, Geneve was not as crowded as the more recent years, but never so empty! Even early in the mornings you could see more passers by! Stay safe, my friend.
newnew Posted April 3, 2020 Author Share #6 Posted April 3, 2020 I hope you can make it back to Geneva one day Louis. just give me some advance notice ! I will be glad. This city changes a bit but not so much. You may recall that they can adjust the level of the lake by regulating the flow of the Rhone river. Right now the lake level seems to be at least a meter below its normal. This is why a few areas are emerging. For me also it was a surprise. You also keep safe in the US where the peak is yet to come ! Street photography these days is just streets !
JPP1 Posted April 4, 2020 Share #7 Posted April 4, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks Ali, for bringing news from Lake Geneva, my favorite place in the world! Based in Paris, I usually try to spend one week-end per month there, mainly between Lausanne and Montreux, and sometimes in Geneva. Being onboard one of those Belle Epoque ships is always a feast. Unfortunately, this is no time for those activities. @Louis: Yes, my friend, the water level is at a record low due to 2020 being a leap year, scheduled for maintenance work. A full description is available here. Keep safe, both of you! Jean-Pierre

newnew Posted April 4, 2020 Author Share #9 Posted April 4, 2020 Thank you Stuart. Thank you Jean-Pierre. You are fully right about the leap year concept that I had forgotten. These are also difficult years for the swans hatching as sometimes they put their eggs in places which are later swamped by water when the level goes back to original. We are looking forward to find the lake breeze on board of one of these ships. Wish you both best health and patience in these confinement times which are much harder in big cities like Paris or NY than in Geneva.
