Cadillac, 1950 Series 61, Le Mans

One of two Cadillacs to contest the 1950 Le Mans, considered a trial run for the return of American cars to Le Mans. Miles and Sam Collier co-drove the “Petite Pataud” as it was dubbed. Phil Walters and Briggs Cunningham drove the second Cadillac. The car averaged 81.5 mph, only 8 mph less than the winner, quite surprising the French crowd by finishing 10th. Displayed at the REVS Institute, Naples. FL

Reading, UK, 1980. This was Porsche Cars Great Britain's 911 (930) Turbo press fleet car of the day, seen here at Porsche Cars Great Britains HQ .  I was a medical student in London at the time, and a Porsche nut, and I had written to PCGB to see if I could visit with a medical student mate.  They kindly agreed. My friend had his father's M4 with him, and he kindly let me try it for this shot, as I always loved the Turbo. The film used was Kodachrome 64 and it was my first experience of a Leica.  Never ended up owning a 911 Turbo, but managed a few Leicas of my own!

I think Porsche UK still affix the '911 HUL' plate to their press 911s to this day.

Nothing exotic but well used in Luang Prabang, Laos and children very early in life become quite comfortable on the family scooter.  Leica M10 and my favorite wide-angle the excellent 21mm SEM.

I've tried hard to like a number of modern high-performance cars, but find that the vast majority of new models take away far more of the 'fun-to-drive' qualities of sporty vehicles than they offer. In my view, precious few manufacturers today build cars that even come close to approaching the charm, the purity, the purpose of design and that essential, all-important "joy of motoring" embodied in the best cars of the past, especially the '50s & '60s.

Don't mean to offend or start arguments, but I have yet to find a carbon fiber, Hibrid, 1000HP 'hypercar' that comes close to evoking even a small measure of the excitement and desire to own and drive as some of these old jewels.

Please allow me to post some examples of what I'm attempting to express.
