I've tried hard to like a number of modern high-performance cars, but find that the vast majority of new models take away far more of the 'fun-to-drive' qualities of sporty vehicles than they offer. In my view, precious few manufacturers today build cars that even come close to approaching the charm, the purity, the purpose of design and that essential, all-important "joy of motoring" embodied in the best cars of the past, especially the '50s & '60s.

Don't mean to offend or start arguments, but I have yet to find a carbon fiber, Hibrid, 1000HP 'hypercar' that comes close to evoking even a small measure of the excitement and desire to own and drive as some of these old jewels.

Please allow me to post some examples of what I'm attempting to express.

I agree and would further the sentiment by saying that much the same can be said with the advancement in cameras. Old guard photographers had to know what they were doing with the equipment, understand lighting and be able to tell a story in 24 or 36 images...all the while not really know for sure if they got the shot or not. Today, most anyone can pick up a modern camera and blaze away, pixel peeping the whole time. As with fast laps aided by flappy paddle transmissions, there is little magic and (and for me at least, less satisfaction) in relying on a modern camera to do everything for the operator.

Prescott - lunchtime demonstration run about to start several years ago.  At the time I was training to be an MSA Environmental Scrutineer (for sound level / noise) - we never figured out how to measure this though it was clear even the loud whistling when getting the car warmed up was well below the allowed level.
