Advertisement Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Hi Cotton Eyed Doug, Take a look here Why no bargains for old M film bodies?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Axelwik Posted December 8, 2020 Share #42 Posted December 8, 2020 About 3 years ago I found a functioning M3 for $500. It's my most-used 35mm camera - but not in collectible condition. A couple years ago found an M2 with an erratic shutter for $250 and had it CLA/repaired for around $300, then spent another $25 at cameraleather.com and now it looks new. Bargains are out there if you're patient.

Gavbo Posted March 12, 2021 Share #45 Posted March 12, 2021 (edited) Around 6 years ago I saw a local advert for a 1966 Black Leica M2 for 250USD eqv. I connected with the guy and arranged to complete the transaction on the day. (I knew it was a good price from a quick Internet search). The guy was local and we arranged to meet in the centre of the city so I didn't have much to lose (but I did think it was too good to be true on the way there). We met up in a Café, he took the time and explained how the camera works - focus, loading film and manual metering (I was a newbie at the time). The M2 came with a 35mm f2 Voigtlander. The guy was a photographer and his knowledge on the topic confirms that for me, all was legit and genuine! I was sold! I quickly completed the deal in case of any interruptions and took the gamble (being new to Leica & film in general and accepted possible hidden issues with the camera). A test roll of film confirmed the camera was perfect, no timing or light leaks. Later on I sold the 35mm Voigtlander for 180USD and 'upgraded' to a Summicron 35mm. So this fully working M2 costed me 70USD! To this date I still wonder why the photographer sold it so cheap. The bargain of a life-time I said. Ps. If you are that photographer please connect me and tell me why? While the Serial does not match up with the list of Genuine Black m2 and the seller mentioned the self-timer was replaced with a silver one when the original broke off. The paint bubbling and authentic brass'ing no doubt an early repaint, perhaps with original paint? Here's the camera. Welcome, dear visitor! Einst_Stein Posted March 12, 2021 Share #46 Posted March 12, 2021 I had this poblem before, and I ended up buying a Kodak Retina IIIc: clean lens, clean range finder, clean cosmetically, precise shutter speed. I paid less then US$ 250 for the 3-lens set: 35/50/85, but I use only 50mm/f2, so far. I don't like switching lenses.
TheBestSLIsALeicaflex Posted March 13, 2021 Share #47 Posted March 13, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Peaks and valleys with the prices of Leica M stuff. Circa 2005 was a valley; we're high up on a mountain top now.
