Aaron Daniel Posted March 18, 2020 Share #2 Posted March 18, 2020 Thanks Photoworks! Do you have any insight on recording L-log to external recorders like the Atomos Ninja V? I'm still unsure of this Thanks in advance
Photoworks Posted March 19, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted March 19, 2020 I don't have the Atomos, I have been using the VideoDevices Pix-E. The Pix E can not do 4k 60p , only up to 30p But in any case you just hit record on the recorder and go. I have not seen option on the SL2 for a HTML trigger. I use the LUT to preview the monitor in REC-709 . I find the LOG to the card to be better dynamic range then the recorder. Better highlights rolloff in camera. But I am still experimenting how to expose the LOG. It seams that highlights get lost if overexposed, better recover shadows with some noise reduction. kai2ser Posted February 6, 2021 Share #4 Posted February 6, 2021 Hi -- just wondering if you had any updates on your LUT learnings. I am looking at both SL2-S camera log and Atmos Ninja V

I don't know how they work, to me they aren't neutral and more like a stylist look. https://us.leica-camera.com/content/download/196842/5255895/version/1/file/LUTs+Homepage.7z

Updates for other models will be available in future firmware releases." I presume this means that it will work like many other cameras on Atomos: pick the camera model from a menu and the display is automatically set. 2

Installed it and going to test it. Soon I hope we could see ProResRaw too. Even puny Olympuses cameras do it and the Pana S5.
sebas_ Posted February 16, 2021 Share #9 Posted February 16, 2021 Just curious! When the Atomos is set to L-Log, would you just set the Monitor to Rec 709 to monitor correct colors or would you still upload the LUTs provided by Leica?
Slender Posted February 17, 2021 Share #10 Posted February 17, 2021 I used the leica luts. They look quite nice.

You can do it in several ways, but I would use the Atomos-provided LUT on the recorder to preview your images, and then upload the Leica-supplied LUTs to your editing software. It bears repeating for those who don't know, the monitor LUT is just there to help you assess your images. The recorder saves the L-log data straight to disk, bypassing the viewing LUT. This means that you also need to apply a LUT in your video editor (or make your own LUT-like corrections if you want). The LUT is only a starting point for colour correction. It's been designed by Leica and/or Atomos to provide accurate colour and contrast, based on your camera settings (ISO and colour temp, mostly). Where you go from there is up-to you.
sebas_ Posted February 18, 2021 Share #12 Posted February 18, 2021 Hello Bernard! thanks for your answer! I have just heard back from Atomos they suggest to use the provided LUT from Leica while monitoring. so that’s was I’m using now to monitor while recording and later apply the lut in the editing suite.
