Does anyone from the United States has insured photography gear? I have so much valuable stuff pilled up now that I'm seriously thinking of getting an insurance. Which one would you recommend? I generally don't like nor trust insurance companies, but if anyone has a good experience with any company, please wrote down.

I have used Taylor & Taylor for 5 years so far. They are reasonable but I find service the #1 factor for insurance. I get responses right away with questions and requested certificates of insurance.

It would be interesting to compare the prices...

France: deductible $200, no depreciation until the 37th month since new, then 1% per month. lots of exclusions...

Premium is $2200 per year for $60K value, and $500 for $10k value (new).. Very expensive.

From another source, premium is 2.8% of the insured value and 5.8% if you want to be covered in case of stollen gear (once again lots of exclusions).

I pay $1200 per year for $55K of camera equipment, included is liability 2Mil, all computer equipment in the office and on the road.

Certs are $25

I think the minimum insurance is $500

For many years I have added a rider to my premium level homeowners policy to cover private collections, which for me includes photo gear, vintage prints, etc.  It has no deductible, pays full replacement value (with appreciation as applicable) and covers virtually all circumstances the warranty may not... loss or damage... worldwide.  I’ve used both Chubb (under what was called their Masterpiece policy) and AIG (under their Private Client Group).

Keep in mind that policies vary by location, by company, and by individual circumstances (including whether one also has other insurance coverage, e.g., auto, through that company).   I’ve been fortunate to qualify for these high end policies, which have very reasonable premiums over and above the separate home insurance policy, which covers other home contents, etc.

this matches my experience, including having used chubb and aig, and now using pure (not sure if they cover outside u.s.).  very low premium (don't recall exacly but < $300 p.a. for ~$50k coverage), replacement cost, no deductible.  i've had two claims over fifteen years- a rogue wave that ruined my m9/lens and another for theft of canon slr plus two lenses.  no nonsense claims payout within a week.  well worth the piece of mind, and as someone who skews heavily toward self insuring, one of the few insurance products that has a non-negative expected return.

I have done the same for many years in terms of a personal articles policy that attaches to my homeowners policy.

I considered a rider on my homeowners policy but found that they would not pay out on a claim if the equipment was used professionally. Since I occasionally show my work with offers to sell, I opted for a commercial policy. I use Heffernan here in the US and insure my equipment for replacement cost. There are options for rental equipment coverage as well as coverage internationally.

Hirohhhh,  Depends if your camera gear is for personal or professional use.  I use Travelers Insurance for all my professional camera gear.  It is world-wide coverage, adjustable deductible and customer service is excellent.  My personal gear, I use USAA and they are too are superb with customer service.  I have never had a issue making a claim with either one.  r/ Mark
