mole73 Posted February 21, 2020 Share #1 Posted February 21, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) After reading about many issues of newly bought MP´s in the last few weeks I want to give you my personal experience of my own new MP because it´s different: I bought the MP in February 2019 as my second MP-body. My first MP-body was bought in 2003 and in 2016 I sold it. I regretted to sell it so much that I decided to buy another new one at the factory in 2019. After ca. 12 rolls of film my conclusion is that it is without a doubt my finest M-body to date (I owned M3, M2, M5, M8 and M9). It is smooth, silky and gives fabulous results without any scratches or such things. To work with it is an absolute delight. In comparison to my first MP-body from 2003 it feels much smoother and the leatherette is perfect. My MP is fine, that's it! Robert 11

ianman Posted February 21, 2020 Share #2 Posted February 21, 2020 I suppose this is response to the recent multiple reports of issues with new MPs. My own MP wasn't perfect when I got it, the covering has a few bumps here and there and to me that is a non-issue. But I can easily understand that more serious problems are very annoying for the buyers. From any camera company it would not be acceptable and probably even less so from Leica who go out of their way to present their products almost as works of art. The production of film cameras is probably very much a sideline with most likely very few people assigned to the task. Issues are bound to arise and that is understandable, though not acceptable in case of real operational issues rather than cosmetic. After all each and every one of these cameras is supposed to have been checked thoroughly before leaving the factory. It seems that the time has come for Leica to make a decision. Either keep making film cameras and step up the quality control, or stop making them altogether.
gabrielaszalos Posted February 21, 2020 Share #3 Posted February 21, 2020 (edited) Nice to see such a posting. My (second) MP body also seems great, although I'm still waiting to receive my first roll developed Enjoy your MP, may you shoot it for many more years to come! P.S. My first one had some problems with the images in the rangefinder never aligning vertically. My second one, bought from Wetzlar, was double-checked before being sent out and seems to be perfect in all ways. I have not yet seen the images yet since I've only sent them in for developing and scanning two days ago. Should arrive today! a.noctilux Posted February 21, 2020 Share #4 Posted February 21, 2020 Nice to hear positive description of new MP. When I used Leica MP at two different periods, purchased second hand, I never had to complain about them. They were as good, smooth and reliable as Leica M should be. Because I used less the first x0.85 MP, I sold it and shortly regretted it, so I bought one MP x0.72 again. The two MP , a joy to use. Now I don't have MP but new bought when released M-As, not better than MP, just a bit different. In my view, economically making film M can be a non profitable choice, but I'm glad that Leica launched "dinosaure" as M-A in 2014. So if Leica stops making film M, this wouldn't bother me, I have nice tools for decades to come.

mediumformula Posted February 21, 2020 Share #6 Posted February 21, 2020 My MP got sent from the New Jersey distributor back to Germany today to repair the light meter issue that my two-week old MP has. Hopefully when this issue is resolved I will have a camera that will function well for a lifetime. Not really the experience I was expecting with this expensive purchase but trying to be realistic about these things happening and not get upset over it. So far the Leica store in NYC has been pretty responsive about it.
