Robinyuill Posted March 12, 2020 Share #41 Posted March 12, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there. I've a great M7 and I'm looking to get a M6 classic or a M6 ttl. I see other threads on these cameras and there's a bit of a question on the plus or minus points of the two cameras. There's not been a definite answer on the repair and reliability of the meter. Any information as I'm looking at two cameras with a view to buy one or other soon. Regards Robin.

andrew01 Posted March 12, 2020 Share #42 Posted March 12, 2020 My M6 is nearly 35 years old and the meter works perfectly. I understand that the meter sensitivity can be adjusted at service if needed. It is a ‘modern’ SPD meter cell and it uses modern batteries, unlike the CdS cells in the 70’s cameras which are more prone to failure and require non standard replacement for obsolete mercury batteries. I don’t think meter reliability is something to worry about when choosing between an M6 or M6TTL. I like the M6 classic because it is true to the classic M camera proportions, but I would be happy with either. Just get the one you can get the best deal on. I actually bought a brand new M6TTL in the early 2000s but ended up trading it in on some digital SLR that depreciated to peanuts. Bad decision! I bought my M6 classic used and it’s a bit rough cosmetically, but it works well. Shooting my M3 feels like driving a roller compared to the M6 which feels like driving a VW.
