I now own one of these as well, and look forward to using it on both M10 and M9M. The dealer made an offer I couldn't refuse (so I tell myself). The ergonomics are much nicer than the standard version I rented, except for the clip-on hood. Still haven't decided whether to use the hood or just a filter (picked up a B&W XS-Pro nano filter to experiment). If flare is a problem, then the hood will definitely stay on.  Good to know that it hasn't scratched the barrel with regular use, unlike reports of brassing with the black paint LHSA version. I agree that the lens cap is cool...but doesn't work if the filter stays on.

I love my 50 Lux BC but I still cannot fathom why leica would not have made the hood work with filters. 😂

been beaten to death on the forum but I’m still not over it. I’m a big color filter user on Monochrome cameras and prefer to keep the hoods on for protection and flare but oh well. It’s such a beautiful lens. It would not look right with a screw in hood.

and as to why I quoted you about the 50 apo special, I can picture exactly how this conversation went and even though it probably wasn’t that great of a deal, I 100% get (in my own way) why you would have bought it. The design is beautiful, the optics close to perfect while still having a beautiful rendering, and the limited production is all very appealing. Congrats on the purchase. You may not ever use any other lenses...

Ha... if I told you, I’d have to shoot you. 😉. Let’s just say that it was quite a bit less than the standard version. But I only have 4 M lenses now, and each are tools to be used. The allocation of time, though, will be shared due to my getting acquainted with a newly acquired SL2 and 3 SL lenses. Back in in my film days, I routinely shot multiple formats and brands, but since transitioning to digital in 2009, I’ve shot exclusively with Ms.  So I’m looking forward to again diversifying my shooting.  But the new APO will stay on the M bodies, along with its cousin 50 Summilux ASPH, which is a also delightful lens.... with a retractable hood. The good news with the APO’s clip-on hood, however, is that it works with a filter in place; it’s only the metal lens cap that won’t work over a filter.

Wow! Some investment but should hold its value well. I think the LHSA version in black was black paint, or are you getting the follow up Leica version in black chrome . Both are gorgeous!

I guess its just the black chrome version then! Not sure what its called. 50 APO Summicron Limited edition?

There is no "just" with this awesome lens!

LEICA APO-SUMMICRON-M 50 f/2 ASPH.,
black chrome

Reminiscent of the vintage Summicron 50 f/2 (II) from 1956, the APO-Summicron-M 50 f/2 ASPH., black chrome features the characteristically scalloped focusing ring, with barrel components machined from brass.

This special lens has engravings for the focal length and distances measured in feet highlighted with red enamel paint, meticulously applied by hand.

The classic package is completed with a vintage-style , round brass lens hood engraved with ‘Made in Germany’ and a lens cap carved from solid brass.

The retro-style black chrome version of this lens matches the incredible capabilities and image rendering of the standard Leica APO-Summicron-M 50 f/2 ASPH., and will be limited to just 700 lenses worldwide.
