Also used a backup Ricoh GR every now and then. Now that some long-term reviews of the GR III are showing up, I'm seriously considering selling both and just travel with the new Ricoh for the sake of pocketability. All I can say is that the GR is an excellent camera but I believe you'll regret it. Correct, the Q is a LEICA and the lens is the/one of the best lenses on the market. I also shoot either smartphone (Samsung S10+ or Huaway P30 Pro) or my Q2, my Nikon D800 sit abandoned in the shelf and i guess soon she will find a new owner. faxao Posted February 1, 2020 Share #4 Posted February 1, 2020 (edited) In my experience the GRIII is a small, great camera and the quality of its raw files is excellent. Its pocketable size makes it my "always with me" camera. It definitely lacks though the full handling/shooting experience that only my Leica Q and M bodies are giving me when I use them. Framing through an EVF/OVF is certainly a big part of it, as well as the possibility of playing with the aperture ring, the ISO wheel and the other settings to achieve the final result. There is a sort of physical pleasure in the handling of a proper, full body camera that a pocketable one can hardly transmit to the photographer IMHO. The lens sharpness exceeds the 18-56 and 18mm TL lenses and flare is exceptionally well controlled. Because of its size and quick use, the GR-III is always along for the journey. As much as I love my Q and M, I find it really liberating sometimes to walk around and shoot pics with a really pocketable camera which btw produces more than decent raw files. In fact they’re better than a lot of cameras in the feature set including night mode (amazing 3 sec image stabilized) and the three lenses. Yes, I own an iPhone 11 but it's not a real backup for traveling due to the poor handling; also given that the GR III is in fact even smaller in terms of footprint.
