Bought the Q Titanium on release day and carried it all over the globe. Also used a backup Ricoh GR every now and then. Now that some long-term reviews of the GR III are showing up, I'm seriously considering selling both and just travel with the new Ricoh for the sake of pocketability. Anyone else who went the same route? Especially when it comes to the compromise in shallow DOF and low-light.

I had a fuji kit plus a GR II for a pocketable solution and sold everything for a Q-P. All I can say is that the GR is an excellent camera but I believe you'll regret it. The GR lacks "magic", shooting experience and built quality. iPhone or any modern smartphone with a goo camera + the Q is the best combo imo.

Correct,
the Q is a LEICA and the lens is the/one of the best lenses on the market.

I also shoot either smartphone (Samsung S10+ or Huaway P30 Pro) or my Q2, my Nikon D800 sit abandoned in the shelf and i guess soon she will find a new owner.

In my experience the GRIII is a small, great camera and the quality of its raw files is excellent. Its pocketable size makes it my "always with me" camera.

It definitely lacks though the full handling/shooting experience that only my Leica Q and M bodies are giving me when I use them. Framing through an EVF/OVF is certainly a big part of it, as well as the possibility of playing with the aperture ring, the ISO wheel and the other settings to achieve the final result. There is a sort of physical pleasure in the handling of a proper, full body camera that a pocketable one can hardly transmit to the photographer IMHO.

Nevertheless I love my GRIII and I would never part from it. just my two cents....

Duomo di Milano: Is it taken with a good lens/sensor? What is a good lens/sensor then? I hope it just comes down to the low quality in the forum due to its limitations.

Well, when you crop down to 200k a 15MP jpeg I'm afraid some quality loss is inevitable. The uncropped version looks much better (1/60 f/2.8 ISO 2500 btw).

Thank you. I know that square well. Its a beautiful place no doubt. And no doubt: The Ricoh is very small just to slip into any pocket.

If you want to downgrade from the Q for portability, consider one of the X series cameras. At least you'll get good image quality - maybe not quite Q level, but much better than the Ricoh.

True, but the X does not really slip into a jeans pocket though

I would dispute that the Ricoh image quality is any way lacking. The lens sharpness exceeds the 18-56 and 18mm TL lenses and flare is exceptionally well controlled.

Because of its size and quick use, the GR-III is always along for the journey.

You've got very small pockets - or really tight jeans.

Had the very first X — Obviously way too slow and outdated by now and I think the most recent model would make me miss the Q even more ;)

What do you all want to carry in your pocket? Take a small photo bag, hang it around and you can also store your souvenirs in it .....

As much as I love my Q and M, I find it really liberating sometimes to walk around and shoot pics with a really pocketable camera which btw produces more than decent raw files. I also like the 28mm equivalent lens more than the 35mm one of the X.

Have you looked at the images from an iPhone 11 Pro? They are IMHO easily good enough for just a walk around in your pocket camera. In fact they’re better than a lot of cameras in the feature set including night mode (amazing 3 sec image stabilized) and the three lenses. I love my Q2, but the iPhone is my new backup and it’s always with me.

Yes, I own an iPhone 11 but it's not a real backup for traveling due to the poor handling; also given that the GR III is in fact even smaller in terms of footprint.
