dancook Posted January 30, 2020 Share #1 Posted January 30, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I wondered if anyone shoots with this combo and had samples, I was thinking the ISO handling could make it great for fast shutter zone focusing street photography.

I have a few with the 28 mm at f/5.6 from today but I’m not sure I’ll post them. They don’t really qualify as street photography. I posted three with the APO 50 Summicron-M in the image thread just now. I prefer that focal length. One was at ISO 6400 to maintain 1/500 sec. shutter speed and keep the lens stopped down at f/5.6. It‘s definitely a bad weather camera. You can see the three here: https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-Zd87Qg/

dancook Posted February 1, 2020 Author Share #5 Posted February 1, 2020 It does look nice and clean! I went to London myself today with the Q2 to remind myself why I love it still came back fancying the M10 Monochrom.. I shoot as I walk - so AF sometimes gets background, or doesn't lock and doesn't take a photo.. zone focus with awesome ISO handling and hopefully won't miss a thing

Ah yes that is true and i didn't notice it was just a lux @ 5.6, however it is still interesting to see ISO and handling at those settings. I'm in the process of working out if I got the M10M and a lens for street, whether the summaron would work day and night and the ISO would keep up. I could just as well investigate the elmarit, but I intend to stop it down

I realized for the first time how much fun this type of shooting with zone focusing can be. I carried the camera with only a wrist strap and the thumb rest attached to have a firm grip on it, just as Gregory Simpson suggested. vor einer Stunde schrieb John Ricard: Nice processing on these images. Most of the time Monochrom images look too flat to me. Thanks. I used a yellow filter on both lenses for these. Had the orange filters with me, too, but didn't want to use them in this light. I never use the Monochrom without the yellow filter as a default at least. Most people say yellow doesn't do anything. Well, even if the effect is subtle, it does make for better tonal separation that pays off when processing the files afterwards, IMO. vor einer Stunde schrieb SrMi: I assumed that OP is asking about Summaron 28mm f/5.6. Darn it! No wonder the combo with the 28 Summilux-M felt a bit heavy to shoot one-handed. I didn't even know there was a Summaron. 😁 The following two are with the 28 Summilux turned Summaron, wide open I guess. It felt just a bit heavier in the first one. 😂 Welcome, dear visitor! Chaemono Posted February 2, 2020 Share #11 Posted February 2, 2020 I posted one with the APO at ISO 2000 in the image thread. Less compressed JPEG is the seventh here: https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-Zd87Qg/. The amount of eyebrow detail and the tonal separation of the hair with the yellow filter is really nice. The real interesting character is the guy in the background, though. 😂
LeicaPassion Posted February 2, 2020 Share #12 Posted February 2, 2020 The 28 Summaron renders differently than the "28 Summilux turned Summaron."
dancook Posted February 2, 2020 Author Share #13 Posted February 2, 2020 (edited) I just saw 28mm lux has quite a hefty price! I've approached the subject of the M10M with my wife and well i'm still alive. But I'll probably start with the elmarit i think.. and well going to need to get some more money together. Definitely go with the Elmarit. Stopped down a bit it’ll be a stunner. There’s no point to use the Summilux for street if you’ll be shooting it at f/5.6 and higher.
dancook Posted February 2, 2020 Author Share #15 Posted February 2, 2020 (edited) If i'm happy with the 80mm 1.9 for hasselblad portraits (arriving very soon), then the 135mm 2.8 and Q2 could go and i'd be pretty much there ...but no rush.. must not rush into things.. Have that Hasselblad lens. It's a stunner for out-of-focus rendering and sharpness wide open. It comes at a cost of tons of CA/PF at sharp, shiny edges in the in-focus areas and at the borders of extreme dark and bright out-of-focus areas. dancook Posted February 9, 2020 Author Share #20 Posted February 9, 2020 After a week of stressing about whether I was making the right decision, having my Q2 and XCD 135 up for sale, I decided to give up so much versatility for it was not something I was ready to do I still want a Monochrom, but i'll just keep on saving and see what happens later in 2020.. enjoy your Monochrom's guys!
