stickan1 Posted January 30, 2020 Share #1 Posted January 30, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I do mainly landscape photography and I have used Leicas for the last 10 years including a M9M. I am currently using a M10 and a Nikon Z7 with Novoflex adapter. That is in many ways a perfect kit but I am tempted by the M10 Monochrom. I haven't seen many landscape images yet from the M10 Monochrome. I enjoyed the challenges posed by the M9M which I kept for 3 years but then bought a M240. So I would like to see more landscape images taken with the M10 Monochrome and hear about other experiences and reflections concerning the suitability of the camera for serious landscape work. Deep inside I think I know the answer already: the gear that I have is more than enough! But I am tempted anyway.

marcg Posted January 30, 2020 Share #2 Posted January 30, 2020 The gear we all have is always more than enough. That's the problem.
Jeff S Posted January 30, 2020 Share #3 Posted January 30, 2020 (edited) There’s nothing in the manual that indicates “not suitable for landscape.” But seriously, if you found that the MM1 and M10 serve(d) your needs well, then the M10M will surely do the same. Others will produce same, worse or better results, irrespective of the gear. And if you print, online pics shouldn’t matter anyway. Lots of gear these days provide more than enough IQ to produce superb results. For me, much about gear selection comes down to other factors such as control interface, ergonomics and handling, viewing and focusing systems, lens choices, and other special characteristics (weather sealing, etc). The M10 is essentially the same camera with the color array and lower MP; that has plusses and minuses. Some of those M10M differences such as higher resolution, potentially ‘cleaner’ (less noisy) files, no color capability or use of color channels in PP, can be a plus to some and a negative to others. Only you can decide. Maybe when the dust settles down you can demo one... and make your own pics and prints...assuming GAS hasn’t already taken over. The real problem is that most of us do not have the extra cash to afford the M cameras and lenses that we want. As I tell my wife, "Leica cameras and lenses are a quality of life issue." For some unknown reason that statement of the obvious seems to always elicit a nervous tick from her which manifests as an eye roll. My response is always the same: "But, Dear - isn't it better for a married man to spend his entertainment money on Leica kit rather than tequila, strippers and lap dances?" This legitimate question is sometimes followed by the spontaneous flight of a high heel shoe in her size through the room. 😎 Edited January 30, 2020 by Herr Barnack 1
RexGig0 Posted January 31, 2020 Share #6 Posted January 31, 2020 Landscape shooting is, certainly, a legitimate reason to desire more megapixels. I foresee no desire for enormous images of the people in my life, but I do like the idea of printing some large landscape images. I have recently become interested in monochrome landscapes, an interest which started before I saw rumors of a high-MP Leica Monochrom. The amazingly-low-distortion Zeiss 4,5/21mm Biogon C, on my Monochrom 246, has become a favorite, so the interest in monochrome landscapes has been sparked. If I can maintain this interest, I may well add an M10 Monochrom, especially if it also delivers on the promise of low-light, high-ISO performance, for urban walking-about.

I would think that once you've got the Leica gear your wife allowed, tequila with strippers and lap dances can be a very nice photographic subject... In the name of showing the world exactly how it is, of course.
