Bill lately, after seeing a ton of images on places like LUF and Noctilux posts on Flickr I've come to the conclusion that Black & White images often portray a greater sense of three dimensionality than color ones do. Maybe it's because when you're dealing only with tones without the distraction of color you tend to perceive the 3D effect more. I don't know. But it's cool to watch. Especially images where there is a good foreground and background to enhance the separation of planes.

Interesting though about tones vs colors. At any rate, I think I'll give it a try.

I don't know, if this is for your pictures or is it open?

I was just looking for images in my LR with keyword B&W and I got more than 10.000! 🙂
and found one from yesterday, that I may share here. We had some snow for a few hours and I took this one out of my window without getting wet shoes.
Again with Sony A7R infrared, but in this case the IR is almost without any effect :-))
a special 3D effect is not really visible, if you don't know, that it is B&W, you may not even notice it.

Hi Dierk,

I certainly don't mind if you want to post your photos it's pretty much open but it's in the LUF forum for "Nature and Wildlife". I had a shot of sunflowers and thought I'd post it here. Since I figured most of the shots in this particular forum would be in blazing color I created a title that asked if BW shots would be okay.

While the effect will work with just about any lens under the right conditions generally I'd say use the fastest lens you've got and open it up wide.  

The more foreground and background distance you have with your subject (particularly the background)  the greater the effect will be.

Also, tweak post processing to obtain good, sharpness (without looking overly sharp) along with a nice tonal range and contrast without the shot starting to look too muddy.
