The images are beautiful; some have a 3-D quality about them which I can't capture. Can I assume that most, if not all, shoot RAW to get that rendering? I can't say I'm satisfied with any of the jpegs I've shot to date since getting the 8.2 a couple of weeks ago. Thx!

Paul,

I personally always shoot RAW with my M8. Here an example from today with a 35mm Summicron ASPH wide open. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/people/122907-rose-mary-stan.html

Always! RAW and C1 (low ISO) or CameraRaw 5.6 (high ISO).

Beautiful shot Wilfredo. That's what I'm trying to achieve, but always fall short. Looks like I have to start playing with the Capture One :D

I do my PP with PSCS4. I've never used Capture One. The best way to improve is to spend lots of fun time playing with the images. Eventually you develop a work flow that's right for you.

Hello Sicherdat,

I had come to understand from internet commentary that the VC 21 f4 wasn't very compatible optically with the Digital M cameras. It would appear that either 'they' were misinformed in the matter or you neglected to screw up the shot to show the VC21/4 as a 'bad' lens! :-) After seeing these shot by you, I would unhesitatingly buy the lens to put on a M8.

Great images, just incredibly wonderful! So very often the 'great' Leica images are symphonies of what the lens is capable of, which your collection certainly is, but your's definitely bring the artist with the craft and shout the presence of the 'photographer'.

My Compliments.

Hello Richard,

thanks fot the compliments!

But here is the bad news: Beware of the VC 21/4 for M8.

Here my story: Bought first a VC 21/4 M Mount, got a good copy, optical perfect, tried to code it, does not work. Without testing (time) made a 14 days fototrip to poland (said to myself: it will work, cant be so worse with red corners). After the trip I put 60 % of the raws into trash, because I really cant repair the red corners (I tried all tips and software I found in forums). It was very hard work to rescue the others. So I use it now only for film. A great lens, but not for M8, if you want colour pictures. It works, if you only shoot B/W.

Next step was to buy the screw version of the VC 21/4 and a JM adapter. Lens broke after two days, replaced by Voigtlaender, no problem, but both copies wasn´t sharp like the M-Mount lens (adapter?) and I got red corners too, not so strong, but the pictures always need a repair.

So I gave up, bought a Leica 21/2,8 asp. was happy with sharpness, no red corners, but very unlucky with the size and weight. Sold it after 4 month, lost 40 % (was the time, my wife don´t talked to me ) and bought a Leica 24/3,8. Great lens.

I own some VC Lenses (21/4 M, 21/4 screw, 25/4 M, 35/2,5 M, 35/2,5 screw, 35/1,4 MC, 2 x 50/1,5 M-adapter, 50/2,5 M-adapter) and some I like really, but after a lot of testing I only use with my M8 the 50/1,5 (coded) and 35/2,5 M (not coded). This two lenses works perfect at MY M8. The other lenses I use for my film rangefinders.

For myself I found out, it makes no sense (for me) to use non Leica lenses and not coded Leica lenses under 35 mm at M8. I spent a lot of money for the try to save money.

In the last time, I only use my all time favourites Summicron 28 and 50.

Very Nice 'Selfie' Cult22!

The Canon 50 f1.2 has given a wonderfully 'drawn' image on your M8 that, at least in a 'posting' jpeg, I find quite aesthetically pleasing. Was it wide open? I've got it on my 'try' list, but most of the Canon f1.2 shots wide open I've encountered are anything but sharp yet the in focus areas in your selfie are pretty crisply drawn.

Thx - Richard in Michigan

Thanks Richard!

This one was taken at f/2.0 and iso 320.

Then again, I think I might have been quite lucky with my piece of glass as I find it ok "enough" even at f/1.2. I have also read that some people claim an UV/IR filter even sharpens it up. I seriously cannot tell if it is true or not :)

However, stopped down its more than adequate even tho it's considered a soft lens. I would at least recommend you try it out if you get the chance.

Just back from my Semi-Annual trip to the desert.

This is in the Mojave Desert in California in a place called Caruthers Canyon

This is the High Desert and our camp was just under 6000 feet.

That last one looks like an M2 (looks identical to mine).

Very cool landscape. Most people don't think of the M8 as a landscape camera but it it is a great tool for this.
