Ah, sorry. Her name is Jean. 🙂Quite an accomplished shooter, actually.

Thanks, reminded me of a disabled war vet (lost leg) I knew long ago, who spent a lot of casual time at the tables in Madison, mostly because few could beat him.

I've undoubtedly seen him. We only have one high quality pool hall here and I've spent a lot of time there.

This was 1972-77, at a bar/hall on State St, I think.  I remember quarters lined up on the tables for the next informal challenge.

That would probably be Dewey's, owned by Dewey Weum--a big time gambler who won several hundred thousand playing Texas Hold-em in Las Vegas. He's still around but not in good health. I know him pretty well.

I think back then there was also Cue-nique Billards (upstairs from DJ’s bar?). I don’t remember where my friend hung out.

Sorry to others for the OT

Yes, Cue-Nique was a great pool hall and I spent a lot of time shooting there--mostly a game called one-pocket. The original owner was Jerry Briesath, a longtime friend, who is considered the best living pool teacher today. He's in the Billiards Hall of Fame. Cue-Nique has been demolished, along with everything else on that block, and replaced with high rise apartments.
