Cannot click to shoot after AF sometimes -- motor issues or something else?

So the (used, mint) 120mm I got is superb, but demonstrated the following quirk one day on the S007: it could not shoot in a vertical position!  The horizontal was OK.  I was terrified that's the AF motor issue and replaced the lens, next time it worked fine and keeps working fine.

Then another day, on the SL2 with the S-adapter-L, it also could not click -- the focus seemed finished but no click ensued after pushing the shutter release button.  Again after swapping the lenses and putting it back it was all fine.

A similar thing happened with the zoom a few weeks ago.  It failed to shoot but after a swap it worked fine.

The one case of AF motor failure I saw was in the Leica SF store, where an off the shelf 45mm failed with a high-pitched whizzing noise and failed to focus at all.

Nothing like that was felt in my cases.  I'm not sure whether the AF motors were replaced in those ones.

Would you say it's on onset or a symptom of that, or something else?

Setuporg,  I had the same thing happen to my S007 and lenses a while back.  I found that if I simply wiped the contacts occasionally the problem stopped.  This was particularly true in my case if the equipment was used around water, above average humidity or cold.  The folks at Leica SF store actually suggested that I try the wiping remedy when I use to own a R9 with DMR that would have a similar problem with the contacts between the body and DMR module.  Try gently cleaning the lens contacts with a micro fibre cloth.  I do not use any contact cleaner on the lens or body contacts.  Last, I learned a long time ago, unless you have a document from the Leica Service Center at Wetzlar stating the AF motor was replaced for the lens, I would not buy the lens. No matter who was selling the lens.  Hope this helps.  r/ Mark
