Stuny,

Thank you for you reply.

I am never able to post 1240 on the long side and I think that allowance is small. Leica is an elite club whose members have chosen to spend a considerable sum on gear. Limiting the opportunity to view and share due to extra internet expense doesn't make sense considering the price of admission. Their membership in this forum is evidence they want to see and share the product of that investment in it's best possible presentation. I propose 1600 on the long side and that it is actually attainable.

This proposal is not a revelation.... It exists on other forums featuring far less prestigious camera brands.

Chuck -

The size limitations, which we revisit periodically, and increase what's permitted, are due to the international nature of the forum -- a signifiant number of members do not have access to wide-band Internet, or if they do, it can be quite expensive.  Prently, the file size limitation is 500 KB, but as a sponsoring member it's 1 GB.  At present, we limit the pixel out tp no greater than 1240 on the longer side.

I too find it frustrating to post photos on this forum, and have almost stopped uploading photos, though I really would love to. I do not use LR or PS and find it tedious to resize photos. It is very difficult to adhere to both the dimensions and the file size limits combined.

Is it not possible to incorporate a system like FB which automatically resizes images? This is very much required on this forum.

Stuny, in earlier times, internet bandwidth may have been an issue, but these days, when people can easily upload photos from their smartphones on FB and other social media, I do not think this is an issue any more.

I sincerely hope the Admins will look into this. Thanks!

3am New Year’s Day and the Tooth Fairy decides to arrive, or so Ella, my granddaughter told us after waking us up. Available light from window, full size pic uploaded to Flickr, URL copied and pasted here. No resizing issues. My advice to those who want to post images but don’t have LR or Pshop is to grab a free Flickr account and do the same.

That is not a solution. The idea is to have one-click photo upload to LUF.

Hello. I got into a discussion about this on the leica Q images thread, but since this is off-topic on that thread, I am moving the discussion here.

Though I would love posting photos on this forum, I have almost stopped uploading photos, because I find it extremely frustrating to resize them appropriately. I do not use LR or PS, and it tedious to resize photos with other software, with a lot of trial and error to reconcile both dimensions and file size.

Is it not possible to incorporate a system like FB which automatically resizes images? This is very much required on this forum.

I do not think the original reasoning that "a signifiant number of members do not have access to wide-band Internet" is valid any longer. These days, when people upload photos from every corner of the world from their smartphones on FB and other social media, I do not think this is an issue any more.

This forum sorely requires a one-click solution to upload photos. I know many members, myself included, do not post often, if at all, because of the inconvenience of resizing photos.

If Leica Fotopark and LFI.Online had/have one click capability, then why not LUF?

LUF is a unique and treasured forum, with courteous and helpful members who have a wealth of knowledgeable.

I sincerely hope the Admins will look into this. Thanks!

Well I never said it was a  ‘one click’ solution.

So ignore the workaround advice and don’t upload.

Simple, and that’s a ‘no click’ solution. 😂

Richard, your sarcasm is uncalled for. I know you were trying to be helpful by suggesting Flickr, but my original post was about a one-click solution.

In any case this is a thread for images from the Q, so this discussion is out of place here. I am thus moving this discussion here:

What do you use?

Hello Andy,

My my entire photo library is synced to iCloud. (Of course I backup the library on Hard Disks).

On my MacBook Pro I process the photos (both RAW and JPEG) in the Apple Photos app. I also use Photoscape X via the Photos extension. I do not like heavily editing or cloning etc.

On my iPad Pro, I either use the native Photos app, or Pixelmator Photo.

on a mac it takes me less than 10 secs to open a processed jpg > resize to 1280 > export approx 495kb.

Which software?

But the point I am making, is in this day and age of sophisticated software/aglorithms why should it be necessary to resize at all? LUF should automatically resize the image like almost all other photo sharing sites do.

You could use JPEGmini (https://www.jpegmini.com/) to resize and optimise your files. I use this when I post to LUF and for my work. You can batch process. Runs on MacOS and Windows.

Or @LUF Admin could incorporate their Web Uploader module (https://www.jpegmini.com/developers)

If on a Mac and want more automated processing (add copyright, add borders, etc...) , you could use Retrobatch (https://flyingmeat.com/retrobatch/)

From photos on iPhone, the easiest way to resize an image is to use a Siri shortcut. Download a suitable one from the Apple site, then while the image is on-screen say hey Siri resize image (or whatever it’s called), usually there is a list of resize options, select one, copy the result to clipboard and paste it in the forum comment box.

Thanks. I have tried Shortcuts, as well as an app which JAAP referred me to called Image Size. Unfortunately with both methods it requires a lot of trial and error to reconcile both dimension and file size constraints. Often the resulting file quality is unacceptable.

Unfortunately using this method, I have found the quality is often too poor.

Would you rather the forum compresses and resizes you’re photographs rather than do it yourself, with complete control?
