Dilemma 21mm Super Elmar vs Linhof 617S

Have been to the Grand Canyon about 3 times, everything is miles away from where you are, the best images I have are from a Rollei TLR 80 f2.8. Just questioning a super WA in these conditions. Also at the viewing areas they have you way back from the rim, the WA will give you edge of the rim and the sky. But if you want a WA, if you are driving, the Linhof, if you are flying the 21 SEM just being pragmatic. I'll find my GC photos and put them up later.

I agree that ultrawide isn't right for general scenics of that scale, but is useful for focusing on a very close feature (like wildlife - human or critter) and separating from the huge background. I like to concentrate on details - and provide context by the background.

I have to agree - the 6x17 cm. format coupled with Fuji RVP50 would produce staggering images of the Grand Canyon.  I would urge you to use the original Fuji Velvia ISO 50 (RVP in Fuji's product nomenclature) over the new ISO 100 version - in my experience Velvia 50 captures subtle pastel pinks of sunset that the ISO 100 Velvia emulsion does not.

I have always wanted one of the Fuji GX617 cameras but so far this piece of kit has eluded me.  While I would not want to haul this beast around on my back all day, it still calls to me.

Don't know how many two legged criters will be around, in normal times there are alot. Where a super wide would be great is climbing into the canyon, going to the camp at the bottom. The deer are probably all around.
