hirohhhh Posted December 24, 2019 Share #1 Â Posted December 24, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Do you have any kind of water protective shell for your SL? I know the camera is water-resistant, but I live on the coast with high humidity over 300 days a year and my heart breaks when I see it covered in moist and raindrops, almost every day when I go out to shoot. I found this one by Peak Design, but before ordering, would love to hear if someone has it, or any other similar product. If you have Peak Design shell, what size did you chose? I use 50mm and 24-90mm lenses almost all the time. I also own 90-280 but I use it less than 5% of the time, so I think it's not a big deal if part of that lens is not covered when using it. Jeff S Posted December 24, 2019 Share #2  Posted December 24, 2019 Not that you asked, but FYI, the SL2 has improved weather sealing (IP54) compared to the SL (IP52). I’d rather have a small bag if I were concerned about weather, taking it out for shooting, with all controls easily and fully accessible, than using a fitted cover. digitalfx Posted December 24, 2019 Share #3  Posted December 24, 2019 I’ll say that cover by Peak Design looks pretty cool, I’ve owned their cases and they make great stuff. But I would think the restrictiveness of that type of cover would get old fast. Maybe for limited use, but not a regular thing imo if you shoot in rain frequently, I would seriously consider upgrading to SL2 body. As Jeff pointed out it has far better weather sealing, but it adds quite a few additional improvements that make it a worthy upgrade, especially if you shoot a lot.

No indication of how much time is "over time".
Chuck Albertson Posted December 24, 2019 Share #5 Â Posted December 24, 2019 I occasionally use one of these https://www.thinktankphoto.com/collections/camera-rain-covers/products/emergency-rain-cover-medium for my D750, and Think Tank also make a more elaborate rain cover series, the Hydrophobia line, which I haven't tried. But for the SL, I just carry a bar towel to wipe off excess moisture, or drop it into a bag if nothing's happening. I was out shooting in last Friday's deluge (3.25" in 24 hours, which is a lot for Seattle - it was the fifth rainiest day on record), and didn't experience any problems with the camera. Common sense always applies with weather sealing.  I’d rather have more than less.  And in any event, I carry personal insurance to cover circumstances outside the warranty,  including problems due to my own stupidity. Exodies Posted December 24, 2019 Share #7 Â Posted December 24, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would expect the glass in the camera to get steamy under one of those covers like the peak design.
thighslapper Posted December 25, 2019 Share #8  Posted December 25, 2019 (edited) Any solution may help from the rain point of view but aggravate the humidity issue. At least you don’t have the problem of huge variations in temperatures from camera bag/indoors to outdoors and back that can cause condensation within the camera. lf it is any reassurance I dropped my LUMIX S1R + SL 24-90 in a lake and it functioned fully with no issues afterwards ....... and the S1R weather sealing carries lots of warnings in the manual about it’s limitations. By virtue of it’s design the SL2 ought to be much more water resistant. Edited December 25, 2019 by thighslapper
