Wide open, some years ago, while I still owned this great lens.

I am reposting this image into the 75mm Summilux-M thread.

Releasing migrating bird back into the wild after recovering from flying into building. We released about 40+ birds over a few weeks. It felt good.

I really like this photo. Not only for the beautiful capture (I love how the flying bird is on the focal plane) and rendering of the 75:1.4 Lux ... but also the story. As such is one of the most memorable forum photos for me. Well done!

I realise this is a photo thread - but just a quick question (and IMO not worth opening a nee thread for) .... how do you 75:1.4 users feel about the weight and size of this lens ?

Very tempted do get one due to the always-impressive images, although whenever I hear that someone sold the lens the weight is always mentioned.  So wanted to get your opinion.   I have 560g 50:1 E58 and the weight doesn’t bother me due to the beautiful images it produces.

I had one, sold it after a month despite producing to me the best looking portraits I have ever shot. If you are ok having a (rather expensive) lens sitting in your desk most of the time, then I’d say it’s the perfect lens to bring for a portrait shoot. But I like to use all my lenses frequently, and realized that due to the size / weight it was just too much to make it comfortable to use it for more than a few minutes. It is also quite long, not just heavy…may fit better on the SL but for the M it defeats the purpose of having a small camera.

Then again, it produces the most beautiful results I have seen, even better than the Noctilux to my eyes, so if you find a good one and won’t lose too much money in case you decide to sell it, it’s worth giving it a try. I believe the first iteration of this lens is slightly lighter at 480g? And also slightly thinner, but can’t remember the exact details now. I had a v2 by the way, as the v1 is even rarer / more expensive.

Thanks Dan.  All makes sense.  Strangely, I really like the dense weight of the 560g 50:1 E58 as an endearing characteristic of the lens. But in saying it is relatively short and wide, so that’s the reason I asked about how others find this 75 Lux ... I suspect that the length plays a part in making it handle/balance completely differently to the Noc.

When I was handling my 75 Lux, I held the lens more than I held the camera. This led to a very stable and good grip, which came in very handy.

I just couldn't resist and bought the lens a few days ago. Here are some impressions...
