Correct, it’s Karbe’s masterpiece, a distortion-free 35.

Am I to understand that all APO-Summicron-SL lenses have no lens profiles (automatic or manual) whatsoever, whether embedded or hand-selected? Not only the 35mm?

Correct.

My friend owns a APO-Summicron-SL 75mm f/2 ASPH. and he has got lens profiles for all four APO Crons in his Capture One 20. However, my Lightroom (latest version) has nothing for any of the APO Crons ......

Up till now, do you have any lens profiles for your SL 75/2?

I have the SL APO 35/2, and there is always no lens profile for it in Lightroom ...

I got 'the right profile cannot automatically be found' too but only for the SL APO 35/2, I got a lens profile for 24-90, 16-35, 90-280 and SL 50/1.4...

I have always had the "automatic lens correction profile applied" for all three Varios and the SL 50/1.4, but no such profile either embedded or in manual selection in Lightroom for the SL APO 35/2 ....

I assume there's just simply no lens profile for the SL APO 35/2 at all then?

Guys, I have always had the corresponding lens profile automatically embedded when importing pictures taken with the SL 16-35, 24-90, 90-280 and 50/1.4:

But all pictures taken with the APO-Summicron-SL 35mm f/2 ASPH. has no embedded automatically lens profile, and no lens profile can be found manually in the Lightroom dropdown menu, is there simply no profiles for this lens?

The answer is simple: all SL-Apo-Summicrons (the current 35/50/75/90 and  the upcoming 28/24/21) don‘t need any lens profiles. They are already fully corrected...

Just because C1 lists the Summicron SL lenses doesn’t mean that there are actually distortion corrections being applied. It’s easy to check. Remove the opcodes from the DNGs where instructions to apply lens profiles are usually stored and check the images pre-opcode removal and post.  They look exactly the same.

Personally?  I wish they had included profile corrections in the DNG's.  In my view, software correction, especially on lenses that are generally well corrected for distortion, is beneficial not detrimental.  The Summicron lenses are good--really good, even--but they are not "fully corrected".  No lens is.

My 35mm seems to have at least a stop of vignetting when wide open.  That's actually really good, but it's not zero.  Slightly less vignetting on my 75mm and 50mm as one would expect at these focal lengths.  Distortion is very low, but, again, it's not zero.  The Summicron 50mm in particular seems to have just a touch that could easily have been corrected with an adjustment in opcodes.  That would have saved me having to do it in software for the occasional image where it's relevant.  Yes, technically, the amount of distortion is quite low (probably around 1%), but why not fix it?  Software fixes are still fixes, not problems.  It's just another tool in the lens designer's kit.  I, personally, like the degrees of freedom that we get with software fixes--the potential for smaller, lighter lenses for a given result.  Can one go overboard?  Sure.  Signal to noise ratio will deteriorate if you start pushing the corners by two or more stops.  The loss of resolution in the corners can be a problem with some subjects if distortion correction is too aggressive.  But one stop of vignetting?  A percent of barrel distortion?  Why not fix those?

Best to create a custom profile, as with any camera.
