For those who traded the SL with Leica store, did they appraise and value fairly? My local shop (non Leica store but an authorized dealer) valued my SL too low.

What's too low?? 2K?

I have seen them as low as 2K on FM, similar on Ebay.

They are going to re-sell it... and need to make some profit.

Most stores would look at a minimum of 20% markup.

I'm looking at the USED section on the Leica Store Miami site and used SLs are running at 2.5-2.7k which would match up the ~2K trade-in numbers.

Lower than that, LoL. I'm still hoping to sell it instead of trade in.

E*bay is my last source.

I'm on waiting list with them, but still no news yet. I was at my local store here and they have 1 ready.

You won't make $2500 for trade in, though maybe in a private sale.   Mine went for $1850 to my dealer.  The trade in reduces the sales tax.  Private sale does not.  eBay takes 10% and Paypal about 3% I think, and usually the seller pays for shipping too.   So the difference narrows quite a bit.  Because sales taxes here are 8.625%, in my case getting $1850 from the dealer was within $100 of what I would net on ebay at $2500 and the transaction was done in minutes.  The $100 difference worth it to avoid having to wait for a buyer (competing with other listed same cameras), then pack and ship and then possibly deal with a eBay buyer who didn't agree with your assessment of condition.  That sometimes happens and it is a PITA to say the least, even when you are not at fault.

I also want my dealer to stay in business.  That doesn't mean I will never buy anything elsewhere, but it does mean that when things are close, I will give the business to him.
