FrozenInTime Posted November 29, 2019 Share #3  Posted November 29, 2019 It’s now discontinued : https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cosina.co.jp%2F Which means there will most likely be a gap period  then a replacement with similar wide open sharpness to the 40/1.2 and 50/1.2.
Herr Barnack Posted November 29, 2019 Share #4  Posted November 29, 2019 @FrozenInTime, thanks for the heads up on that - B&H still has them and I just ordered mine. I had the version 1 of the 35/1.2 Nokton and sold it years ago. Been kicking myself ever since. I'm glad to have been able to snag the v.2 before they are all gone. ktmrider2 Posted November 30, 2019 Share #5 Â Posted November 30, 2019 I still have the first version and it produces remarkable images. Â The most common complaint is the size compared to a 35f1.4. Â However, the Zeiss 35f1.4 is a large lens also so if you can live with its size/weight, buy it. I will be honest and say I don't use it as much as I thought. Â Originally, it was my only 35 and I had dreams of doing lots of available light photography. Â Well, I don't do much available light work and for travel I ended up with the 35f2.8 Zeiss C Biogon. Â I don't regret purchasing the 35f1.2 and if push came to shove and it was the only 35 I could own, I could live with it. Â It was the perfect 35 when paired with the M5 (using M2 now). And unlike Leica lenses, you don't have to pawn your first born to purchase one. Â The Photo Village in NYC often has used listings from their rental lenses. evikne Posted December 1, 2019 Share #8  Posted December 1, 2019 But it would be very versatile. We could crop the images and still have the look from a "50mm Summilux".

If the 75 Noctilux is any indication, it will be razor sharp close in for the 5mm plane of focus and melt away bokeh. Using it on a small group, you're going to have to stop it down to Æ’/2.8 or so anyway. Will it be worth $10,000 for this? I guess it will appeal to someone shooting in the pitch black of night. I wouldn't use it on a group of people, but for selective focus on one subject at a time. I shoot wide open a lot with fast lenses, and I do it because I love the painterly bokeh, not because it's too dark. A 35mm Noctilux will probably have a very special "medium format" look, that's why I am curious about it.

Thanks in advance! Its rendering is pretty much unique, and I’ve always been pleased with the results. The combination of f1.2, closer focusing, and that bit of glow wide open provide a look which is still different from the latest aspherical lenses. It hasn’t got the micro contrast of a 35 FLE wide open, but it has plenty of sharpness, 3D rendering, plane of focus separation, and possible better bokeh. I prefer to use it on the SL but on the M it’s difficult to find a better substitute for the 35 Lux. Ecar Posted December 3, 2019 Share #20 Â Posted December 3, 2019 Irrespective of alternatives, if you are set on getting the CV 35/1.2, it's worth comparing the v2 to the v1 - and see which one you like best. I did it years ago and kept the v1 due to more attractive (to my eyes) focus transition and overall oof rendering. YMMV.
