Since I got the M10 I rarely used my M9. Not thinking about it I left a battery in the camera for several months.

Today I wanted to try the M9 for some reason and realized that the battery didn‘t work and didn’t release as it should. I first thought that the mechnism to release the battery was stuck in some way, but it wasn‘t. At last I managed to get it out with a thin knife slowly levering it.

When I tried carefully to resert it again I noticed  that it won‘t fit properly: it has swollen. You don‘t see it from the outside, but certainly it has other dimensions than  three other batteries I used for the M8 and M9. These three fit and release as they should, only the battery I left in the camera has changed and will not fit anymore.

This battery is 9 years old now. So some wear is to be expected, though two others which I already had for the M8 and are more than 12 years old still work perfectly. You should not try to insert a battery which doesn‘t enter smoothly and most important you should not leave an old battery in an unused camera.

I know that but sometimes I forget to take care of batteries when device is not in use for some more or less long period.
