mjl Posted November 19, 2019 Share #1 Posted November 19, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, just got a Q2 and excited to start my leica journey. I very much dislike camera-specific bags, and usually want to carry with other general backpacks/bags which don't have inner iserts to protect the camera. I do have a Peak 5L everday already. Was wondering if people might have recommendations to protect the camera? I have a Domke wrap, but I feel like that is more to protect against scratches, I'm more worried about accidently dropping the bag on the ground. Thanks in advance! Advertisement Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 Hi mjl, Take a look here Leica Q2 - how to protect/carry. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
uffehagen Posted November 19, 2019 Share #2 Posted November 19, 2019 If I use a general backpack, I usually put a small towel in the bottom, as protection, but mostly I use a bag from National Geographic with insert
brunner Posted November 19, 2019 Share #3 Posted November 19, 2019 I use either the Leica protector or the Arisan & Artist halfcase. Both work well...
Trankster Posted November 19, 2019 Share #4 Posted November 19, 2019 I have a half case (with openings for battery and SD card access) and just wear it. I also use a smaller bag with room for a few accessories to carry and store. The small bag fits inside a backpack when traveling.
Ranchhand Posted November 19, 2019 Share #5 Posted November 19, 2019 I have a Lim's half-case which usually stays on my Q2, and I carry both inside of a Billingham 72 bag. The bag has room for a spare battery and SD cards and is a perfect fit for just the camera and these accessories. Welcome to the Leica family. Leica Guy Posted November 19, 2019 Share #6 Posted November 19, 2019 There is a ton of good comments about bags in various threads. I’d just peruse the forum and look for like comments. There must be hundreds. Leica people are bag and case people. EXTREME. I’m guilty too!
Herr Barnack Posted November 20, 2019 Share #7 Posted November 20, 2019 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Here is a system that works for me. First, get a Zing XL neoprene pouch to put your Q2 in: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/113798-REG/Zing_Designs_565_421_STB1_Stuff_Pouch_Black_Blue.html Next, get a 1" thick gardener's kneeling pad and cut a rectangle out of it the same size as the bottom panel of your rucksack or field bag. Put this pad in the bottom of your bag as extra protection against drops. Then get your field bag or rucksack ready. Rucksack: https://www.filson.com/rugged-twill-rucksack.html#sku=11070262-fco-000971914 Medium field bag: https://www.filson.com/medium-rugged-twill-field-bag.html# Small field bag: https://www.filson.com/small-rugged-twill-field-bag.html#sku=11070230-fco-000971914 The forest green color is beautiful, but the tan is good to have for summer if you live in a location where it gets into the high 80s Fahrenheit or hotter during the summer to help keep your Q2 cooler in the bag, if you are going to be out in the heat all day. There are other bags besides those made by Filson, but IMHO Filson makes the best rucksacks and field bags to be found anywhere on the planet. I would also encourage you to take a hard look at the Retrospective 7 v2.0 made by Think Tank: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1430983-REG/think_tank_photo_710731_retrospective_7_v_2_0.html EDIT I just now got this by email - it looks like Think Tank has a new bag coming out soon that is sized perfectly for the Q2: https://www.thinktankphoto.com/collections/retrospective-series/products/retrospective-4-v2-0 Edited November 20, 2019 by Herr Barnack
Stick Posted November 20, 2019 Share #8 Posted November 20, 2019 I use a Peak Designs everyday backpack, and keep the camera stabilized in the center using their dividers (I wrap the camera in a light cloth when in the bag). I also just got the Peak Designs clip which allows me to clip the camera to the backpack strap so I don’t need to hold the camera via a traditional strap. The downside is the clip requires a plate attached to the bottom of the camera using a hex screw. This plate blocks the use of the memory card door (but not the battery), so you have to take it off to get to your card at the end of the day. PhotoCruiser Posted November 23, 2019 Share #10 Posted November 23, 2019 I have the Thumb-Up and the hand grip and the Q2 fitted well inside a cheap, small Case Logic camera bag. Then i bought the Leica Finger loop and the camera with the loop attached will not fit anymore well inside the bag so i looked for a bigger one. I found the LowePro Nova 140 AW II and the camera fit inside and there is still some spare space to fit a strobe inside and the bag has the waterproof cover. There are some pockets too so i guess i can fit everything inside and strap a small tripod or Gorilla Pod on the outside. Chris

DaveCollins Posted November 24, 2019 Share #12 Posted November 24, 2019 (edited) I was after a bag which is absolutely no bigger than needed. I wanted something to protect the camera and throw into a backpack. The other bags I've seen being mentioned are too big, too expensive, with straps and buckles. For small size, great build quality, great protection, ease of use, I chose the Ape Case Small SLR Holster bag: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003BEDRIO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.adorama.com/apnacpro650.html?gclid=CjwKCAiA8ejuBRAaEiwAn-iJ3oIJJB4lnM2OJzUbJOXloiE2QunbqCSfjHxvStibO__iBLP546XvnBoC1asQAvD_BwE Edited November 24, 2019 by DaveCollins
mjl Posted November 24, 2019 Author Share #13 Posted November 24, 2019 Yes, thanks for this! I am looking for something that isn’t a bag, rather an elegant, minimal, high quality protection sleeve/pouch that I can then put into one of my multitude of bags I already own that weren’t designed specifically for cameras! Thats the way i go...(just the ADM 1/2 case) but i know me... if i happen to see a nice small case with a zipper for carrying.. I know i'm going to get it. You want a simple neoprene pouch. They come in various sizes. It doesn’t need to be a leica brand. Search for neoprene pouch on EBay. Availability depends upon your location. One from Hong Kong should be about £
LordCho Posted November 27, 2019 Share #16 Posted November 27, 2019 Are there any ettas pouch alternatives that are a little more padded?

Blackwood Posted December 1, 2019 Share #18 Posted December 1, 2019 I've been using the Camslinger Streetomatic (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1304832-REG/cosyspeed_cocs0017_camslinger_streetomatic_plus_brown_grey.html) for holidays, the Q2 fits perfectly with space for phone and a few extras. Herr Barnack Posted December 1, 2019 Share #19 Posted December 1, 2019 (edited) Another possibility: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1340544-REG/think_tank_photo_462_turnstyle_10_v2_0_convertible.html I have an older version of this bag and it works quite well for carrying a Q2 and a handful of other items (phone, keys, Swiss Army Knife). Doug Nodine Posted December 1, 2019 Share #20 Posted December 1, 2019 I use a neoprene case from China $8.00 in a back pack. When touring I have an Arte di mano half case with a LC-SR-01 by Match Technical
