M8 Firmware Upgrade

I'm glad there is no "Ugly" in this, LOL. I've downloaded the upgraded firmware using my new IMAC which I'm still getting used to, and boy what a simple task it was in comparison to my old PC! My M8 is now updated and good to go :-) I'm looking forward to the reduced noise in the new (1.107) version.

Thanks,

Wilfredo+

Wilfredo: one entirely irrelevant comment. If you lived in the UK, its National Health Service allows you to book appointments at a chosen hospital ON LINE. Wow! Snag is, system doesn't cater for Mac users! (So you join lengthy telephone queue instead...)

FWIW I have been told that Safari is the problem and that the NH system will work on Firefox. However given the competence of our NH service admin, I would be surprised if it works at all. My daughter, who is about to graduate as a physiotherapist along with 2,600 other people, will be fighting for one of a total of 6 jobs across the whole of the UK, due to a stunning level of maladministration. It costs the UK £50,000 each to train them and they will end up stacking shelves in Tesco. All makes Leica look very competent.

So, basically, NHS adheres to the Microsoft standard? Someone should be burned at the stake for spending taxpayer money on a proprietary solution there.

This is really getting off the topic, but if I lived in the U.K. I wouldn't have to pay for health insurance, so what If I couldn't make an appointment online with a MAC? Besides, I still own PC, it's just that downloading firmware with the IMAC was as simple as 1 2 3, click and drag, way less complicated than a PC.

Cheers,

Wilfredo

Even more off-topic, I'm afraid that the NHS over here is a basket case.

We don't know when we are well off - you should look at heath care in some other countries. I'm sick of people moaning about the NHS - they are usually people with BUPA. Sorry Wifredo but needed to rant.:eek:

Maybe it doesn't work as well as it might, but as someone who has to take 7 different types of pill every day, I'm truly glad that we get our prescriptions FOC (here in Wales, at least). :)

Unfortunately, Keith, I have experience from the inside.

Maybe basket case is too strong.

Andy - we are all coloured by our personal experiences. In my case they saved my life when I had a brain haemorrhage 15 years ago and more recent investigations for something as worrying (but fortunately a false alarm) have been prompt and efficient. I just think its so easy to condemn - and I believe there is a political agenda in some quarters to rubbish the NHS to pave the way for replacing it with something much worse but more profitable to some corporate interests.

That's indeed the case. If and when health care is privatized all debate of it will silence. Because it is then a matter of business secrets of companies. It is no longer 'public'.

Whatever - adding to your point; my father died recently, and in the couple of years of his last illness he was treated with dignity, respect and fantastic dedication - all the NHS staff involved were fabulous, I honestly can't think of a single thing that they did wrong, even up to the last day (he died at home). Of course, I'm not saying others don't have bad experiences, but I think that as a general rule they are totally dedicated and effective.

I don't think anyone here who lives in the UK would argue that there are thousands of dedicated "at the coal-face" staff in the NH. My wife is a physiotherapist and although now working in the private sector has often worked for the NH and is currently a council member of the UK controlling body of physiotherapy. She is tearing her hair out over the attitude of politicians and administrators who seem to have the attitude, that if only they did not have these damn inconvenient patients to deal with, the whole thing could run perfectly and they could spend ALL their time at expensive conferences and overseas fact finding visits, discussing how all their targets were now being perfectly met. Sorry for the rant it is a bit of a sore point in our family. My daughter would desperately love to be working in the NH after giving up her job three years ago to train as a physiotherpist, commuting to London each week to go to university. However all the funds have been p******d away in inoperative computer systems, fancy new offices and huge fees paid to outside consultants, so there is no money left to fund jobs for newly qualified trainees. As I said above, there are 6 posts available for 2,600 graduates plus there are an estimated 1,800 from the previous year who are still unemployed. Don't tell me that the NH is working. It is only creaking on due to the dedication of the medical and portering staff. This can only last for so long - they are all becoming increasingly disillusioned.

Medicine in the U.S. is a private enterprise and the patients pay the consequences. We have a deplorable system in this country, and it is going from bad to worse. As a clergy person I often come into contact with people who are denied the healthcare that they need simply because they don't have health insurance, or what they have doesn't fully cover them. People die here as a result. You may not have a perfect system in the U.K. but no one there has to choose between going to the emergency room or not, because they don't have the money to pay for it. In my wonderful country, you can't even call an ambulance without getting slammned with at least a $500.00 bill. Medicine here is all about money, and profit. America the beautiful.

Cheers,

Wilfredo
