Aperture 16 in the sky. Mostly there will be some dust then. I’m more interested in dust that is still visible at 5.6 because I’m seldom shooting with smaller apertures than that. Dust that looks dramatic at 11 or 16 can be gone at 2.8

How dust can be tested? Shooting white list?

Dust on the sensor is the least of your problems with an MM1.

Before you buy you must have proof that the MM1 has a new non-corrodible sensor installed. Otherwise you are throwing your money away.

Looks like Leica are clearing out the last batch of 246MMs.- Wetzlar engraving and slight discount.

I knew about this edition. And specifically decided to buy used  MM1 in order to understand if I really need monochrom. I am completely happy with my camera 😉

Originally I had the M9M but upgraded to the 246 because of battery compatibility with the 240 I also had at the time. The 246 was stolen in Portugal a couple of years ago. I've just replaced it, but gone back to the M9M as I think the files from the CCD sensor have a much smoother transition through the dynamic range.

Just a note on ISO between the M246 and MM1.  Remember that higher ISO means higher dynamic range.  If you compare S007 shots to an M9 you can see the difference in the tonal range.  The MM246 allows much more shadow recovery if you are shooting for the highlights.  So, if you don’t need high ISO for low light, you still get the advantage of it in other images...

IMHO.

your notes above are confusing. Not meant as a negative comment but I don't think most people will be able to decipher. Just an FYI in case you want to clarify.

For the record, the MM246 has very good high ISO performance as would the M10M based on my usage of the M10.

Good comment and thanks!  All I am trying to indicate is that the MM246 has more dynamic range than the MM1, which is more than just shooting in low light.  The MM246 will do a better job in bright sunlight because it will have less blown highlights and black shadows than the MM1.  With proper exposure of course...

I am anxious about the M10M because of both the smaller size (since I shoot film with an MP as well) and because I am sure the dynamic range will step up once again.

Hope that makes more sense!

Agreed.

I still much prefer the MM1 solely for its uniqueness in image rendering. For everything else I prefer the M246. The M10M will be VERY nice. I will be purchasing 100%.
