Pelsen Posted October 21, 2019 Share #1 Posted October 21, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi I have just had my M240 at Leica to fix a faulty SD card socket. (When I press in the card, it won't attach). Leica wanted 18000DKK (2400EUR) to fix it which is a little less than I paid for the camera. I am sure it is a very little thing that is wrong, so my question is if anybody fixes these things other than Leica them selves? Or if perhaps anybody else has experienced similar issues. I refused to pay that much, so I got it back unrepaired. Hope you can help. Best, Pelle

sblutter Posted October 24, 2019 Share #2 Posted October 24, 2019 DAG camera repair in Wisconsin is very good. I would email Don, see if he does jobs like yours But 1st, you may want to try a different SD card. It worked for me!
Jeff S Posted October 24, 2019 Share #3 Posted October 24, 2019 Agree, but if new card fails, since OP is apparently in Denmark, I suggest contacting Will van Manen in the Netherlands, based on positive feedback here. Jeff
Gregm61 Posted October 25, 2019 Share #4 Posted October 25, 2019 I’d be surprised to hear if DAG or anyone else besides Leica will dig into the hardware on these digital models. Calibrate the rangefinder? Of course. Work on card reader hardware? I have my doubts.
silverchrome Posted October 26, 2019 Share #5 Posted October 26, 2019 You might want to try an electronics repair workshop instead because you're essentially dealing with a circuit board. A memory card slot repair is bread and butter to them and shouldn't be too difficult. If they successfully repair the slot but in the process disturb the camera's tolerances, you can send it back to Leica for adjustment. The only problem I foresee with this method is that Leica won't accept it back. But what do you have to lose?
earleygallery Posted October 26, 2019 Share #6 Posted October 26, 2019 Quote I'd try a computer repair shop, an SD card slot is probably a generic part. The problem is that they won't know how to take the camera apart so will probably only attempt it on the basis that they won't be liable to you if they break the camera in the process. But worth trying.
lexontario Posted October 27, 2019 Share #7 Posted October 27, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not a good idea to get non qualified repair tech to attempt repair. I attempted to get my audio electronics repairs by a company that repair and worked on audioelectronics but not my brand. Trying to locate the issue they cut irreplaceable integrated circuits to try and isolate the issue. Now the IC cannot be repaired or replaced as the tech cut the leg of them so close to the body . Now I have 50 pound paper weight. Only option is find a qualified 3rd party repair tech or send back to Leica

The camera is already unusable as it is, and an SD card slot is an SD card slot, what does he have to lose?
Pelsen Posted October 28, 2019 Author Share #9 Posted October 28, 2019 Thanks for all the tips guys. I got it home and thought that it couldn't be right and that it must be something simple, so i gave it some firm slaps on the side, and out fell a little stone or something like that. It now works perfectly again. Somewhat cheaper than paying 2400€... Not the best first experience with Leica repair. I think they could have given it a look over before quoting to change all the guts of it. Thanks again everybody.
sblutter Posted October 28, 2019 Share #10 Posted October 28, 2019 Happy for you! My 2nd idea was to blast the slot with compressed air to remove dust etc
