Otherwise, you have to. But it can be used to buy anything else, other than the preorder camera, in case you changed your mind. For several years, I do not need to make any pre-payment before receiving the camera or lens. I am also kinda auto enrolled in their waiting list. I can ask to be unlisted if the new camera did not suit me. But of course only fidelity grants me these privileges. this would confirm that Leica is a cult

I would be shocked if asked for and would change shop immediatly. I doubt if this is really an interesting subject for a serious Leica forum. In fact asian paing habits are of no interest for non asia living people. Sorry, but reallz no added value for me. Ahrrr,....your info. makes perfect sense. No wonder Leica opened four Leica stores in tiny Singapore and are so eager to ship new launched products here. ‘Money makes the world go round’, ‘world go around’..,,
Jeff S Posted October 23, 2019 Share #44 Posted October 23, 2019 Most reputable US Leica dealers do not require payments in advance, including Leica stores like the DC store near me (which also currently has in stock all the SL Summicron lenses). I’d hardly call many of the independent dealers ‘mom and pop’ that similarly have wait lists requiring no pre-payment. Some of these are well known, high profile and respected dealers discussed here frequently. Even then, the resourceful shopper here can typically avoid wait lists altogether by calling around to smaller dealers in smaller cities (still trustworthy dealers listed on the Leica site) to find gear. I bought an M 240, and later an M10, quickly without problem while many here were moaning about their wait lists at the big city dealers. Each country has issues and practices that warrant consideration. I’m not thrilled about predicted price increases here due to tariffs on lenses. But I’m not going to bash Leica over it. Jeff Thanks for sharing. In Singapore, number of Leica store out number the Leica dealers. I remember being the 3rd in line all excited to prepay for a M240 and only collect my purchase 3 days later after official lunch date. I did not do the same when it came to M10 launch. Instead of initiating as a early bird, I received a call from Leica Store offering me a M10 QM set @ full warranty and 10% discount. In my environment, Leica dealer’s value add has diminished. No matter how many calls one make to the local dealers will not help on products Leica store cannot offer. My current communication with Leica Store is about SL2 price list so that I can make a full payment Preorder. Only this will ensure an early delivery which I desire. I’m not sure if your world is better or mine? But I know I have the avenue to gain a new launch product the secured way without engaging in favour request. Choices for new product here are to wait list (first come, first serve, without pre-payment), or find a small dealer that has no wait list with the item in stock. What’s not to like (other than a magical world without shortages)? Jeff

I am quite shocked to be obliged to pay full price before having a definitive delivering date. In France, never do that in any kind of business, or you a sure to never see your product in time. Just remember how Charles Quint became Emperor of Holy roman german Empire instead of François 1er. The Flemish paid in credit, the French fully before the vote. Not the customers. It is why I say a ‘love-hate’ relationship developed with Leica over time. Edited October 24, 2019 by sillbeers15

Btw no other camera makers put in place such a practice. Years of buying and using Mercedes Benz since my parents do not encounter such sales practices as well. I should clarify, it is strictly a Leica thing, nothing to do with other German makers.
