Looking for a holster case for the 90-280 + body.

I have a Lowepro 70 AWII (for other stuff) and was looking at the 75 AWII, but I think the 75 will still be a little short even with the hood reversed.

Any ideas??

Having the thinktank Digital holster 30 V2.0 and 50 V2.0, I can confirm that both - without using the 'pop down' compartment - fits the SL+90-280. Note that the tripod foot cannot be attached to the lens on the 30 V2.0, whereas you can just squeeze the 90-280 w/tripod foot on the 50 V2.0. Both hosters are really very well made. The width of the 50 V2.0 is somewhat an overkill for the SL, so I prefer using the 30 V2.0.

Wow!! Great info.

i was also wondering if the 20 would fit the 90-280 with the lower part extended. I won’t be carrying the 90-280 all time... so if the 20 would work extended... I could use for other lenses when not extended... and 90-280 extended.

Yep, comparing the interior dimensions between the 20 and 30 holsters, the 20 should do the job, when extended.

Going by the internal dimensions of of the 20 and 30, I don't think my S1R + 90-280 will fit.

I measured the S1R and 90-280... 31.75cm. The ID depth of the 20 extended is 29.2. The ID depth of the 30 is 28.6 (non-extended)

I would much rather have something smaller (20)... if possible.

Could you possibly measure your combo...and shoot a pic of it in your case? I would really appreciate it...

Will try to find time tonight, with SL+90-280 and S1R+90-280, in thinktank holster 30 v2.0.

Attached are photos of the S1R+90-280 (without tripod leg), in thinktank Digital Holster 30 v2.0. The top of the body protrudes a little, but the cover can be zipped. Since the SL is thinner than the S1R, there is a little more room for the SL.

I foresee a size problem if you use a large and/or stiff camera strap and you want to put this into the holster. I use wrist straps for safety on all of my bodies (Leica S, included), and a QD-sling like https://www.reallyrightstuff.com/Magpul-Gen-2-MS4-Dual-QD-Sling for carrying the body+lens in shooting mode.

If you remove tripod foot can you still attach the QD sling to the lens barrel or only to the plate attached to the camera?

For heavy combinations like this i practice camera plate plus lens plates both with QD coupler (from RRS) and Magpul strap.

The QD-coupler can only be attached to the lens via the dedicated tripod mount. The latter can be removed/attached rather quickly. If you want to have the tripod foot fixed on the 90-280, you have to use the Digital holster 50 V2.0.

In my case, I always use the lens tripod foot when using the QD-sling. If the QD-sling is fixed to the body plate, I foresee that the torque on the lens mount can easily be too large.

Thanks for clarification.

My point being squeezing SL/S1R and 90-280 into the above holster prevents having lens fitted with tripod foot and having heavy duty strap that correctly distributes weight of the combination.  I notice your picture show body tripod plate on the camera, that is half way towards having correct strap on the camera+lens combination.

All of the above is irrelevant if one pulls the camera+lens combo out of the holster, fetches tripod foot and required tools and than fits QD plates, straps, start shooting - not a recipe for a quick fire 😎 (can't find emoji for a Cowboy).

Correct. I primarily use the holster for transportation, plus to/from assignments etc. When shooting with large lenses, I typically use one or two bodies, with QD-plates/-slings on the lenses (e.g. a 400mm lens, often with an extender, on one body, and a shorter (zoom) lens on the other body). For more urban shooting, I usually pack the gear into a shoulder bag/messenger with 1-2 bodies or a few lenses. Sometimes I only bring with me the SL+24-90 (or something similar) in a smallish bag like the f-stop Navin old https://fstopgear.com/products/sale/navin (that happen to fit the SL+24-90 tightly).
