Hello all,

I’m thinking about buying an M4 in A-/A-B condition (not sure if boxed). Since I have no idea for how much they are currently being sold, I wanted to get an estimation from you guys in order to get a better sense. I can buy anywhere in the UK or Western Europe in case prices fluctuate by geography.

Is there anything I‘d need to pay attention to (i.e. common issues)?

Thanks,

Paul

Just buy from a respected dealer.  ffordes, Red Dot Camera, Meister Camera, etc. I'm sure our members will come up with many  other recommendations. Don't enter the jungle of private Internet sales unless you know exactly what you are doing.

Thank you. I still find the price quite high from Meister.

Not cheap certainly but the condition of the camera looks unusually fine for its age and Meister have overheads to cover. If you consider that a new silver M-A (the closest equivalent you can buy new) is €4,350 from the same shop, the M4 looks fairly priced. Do Meister provide a decent warranty?

FWIW, I paid $1200 for my near mint M4 just over a year ago. No box but the manual and body cap were included.  I purchased the camera from Ken Hansen and had it CLAd by YYE for about $150, if memory serves.

Thank you. Only Meister has one there currently, but it’s quite pricy and I feel like they are asking for too much.

Does anyone have a view?

Yikes, that's too much.

Don't be fooled by exterior condition as what's inside is more important.

Buying from a seller on eBay with good rating then getting it CLA'd has worked for me with my M2, M3 and M4, never paying more than $800 for any of them.

I have bought most of my used Leica cameras and lenses (many more lenses than cameras) at Leicashop in Vienna. To the US at least they absorb the shipping fee if the bill comes out to more than 500 Euros which is never a problem with Leica equipment. I found their prices and descriptions fair. As Jap noted above, I would never buy privately on the internet.
